do you have any old recording on tape reel.. or cassette ?

If so what is the oldest one and what is on it ?.

Just thinking about the lifetime of tapes, I have some tapes from radio that have survived from 1983, this isn't that long in the big scheme of things, so just wondering.. smile.gif

I have a Sony cassette from '84 that has the orange color label on it. Still plays fine, but the quality stereo sound is gone. Sounds more like mono now. Old Farley BMX mix on it.

I have Sony reel tape's my uncle made being a jazz performer, dated back to 1973 that I still have and they still play.
I keep them in a cool, dry place and a little of the filliment on the begining of a few tape's are gone, but over all the tape's are in good condition. smile.gif

I found a mix I did in my senior year in high school. 1986. 60 minute Memorex cassette with "DJ HOMICIDE" scrwaled in faded, red marker. One side plays ok, but the other side play only on the right and the last thing that was recorded over plays on the left. It's like hearing two mixes simultaneously.

All my old radio mixes are on reel to reel, and the sound quality has degraded over the years. I've been loading them into Soundforge and using the plug-ins to try and restore what was lost........JMJ :(

the oldest surviving tape i have is an off-brand called "arista" which had a white & silver label that my late grandmother (RIP) gave me as a gift which i taped in February 1981. i don't play it being that the tape is in fragile shape and all the highs are gone but they were random songs i taped off the old 92 KTU (Paco Navarro, Carlos DeJesus, and the late Rosko (RIP)) with tunes like "being with you/smokey robinson", "rapture", "don't stop/k.i.d.", "hearbeat", and "i like what you're doing to me/young and company"...

speaking of old tapes, tdks by far tend to preserve their sound quality in the long-run...i got tdk tapes from as far back as'85 that still sound quite clear.

by the way Martin, check your mailbox in the upcoming week...there's something headed your way... :D :D

have a great weekend!

I have an olllldd Maxell 120 minute cassette from 1981 that my brother taped the first New Edition album on. I erased it and left "Give me your Love" at the beginning. I got desperate and couldn't find any tapes to record Tony Humphries one Friday night.

I have another one from that same time period but can't remember the brand. It contains an old 92 KTU, and KISS FM (I think the station was under another name) mixes.

Peace

I have some reels from the 60's and also a lot of stuff from 80 on....

In the process of "baking them" thru FK who is helping me with it.

Peace probably 99 XLO(???) with WXLO being their former call letters (their call letters were "WOR" even before that...if i remember correctly, for many years, they were a rock/top-40 oriented station and by the end of 1980, the owners were going into an r&b format, but it was more of a gradual change...they didn't officially adopt the monkier "98.7 KISS FM" until August 2, 1981 or so...i remember coming back that August from visiting my aunt and uncle in California and one of the first things i did was check the radio dial...that was an initial surprise for me.

I have an old cassette of a church service my father played at from 1974. Amazingly, the sound quality hasn't diminished that much!
