Yeah. I had a copy that was in an album format in '81/'82 with "Can You Handle It" by Sharon Redd and "Can't Nobody Love You Like I Do" by Jeannette "Lady" Day and "Dying To Be Dancing" by Empress. I think there were a few different volumes.

sharon redd-can you handle it (reads 'you can handle it' on the record...) Yeah. This is the one that I had. Man, y'know, these were just "what got played on the radio" in New York in the early eightees. Now, they're classics.
There is a track on Vol. 2; I think it's called 'She's So Divine', that I really like. Problem is I can't find Vol. 2 anywhere.
I agree, Vol. 1 is the better collection.

I found mine in a flea market as well. Mine was the same as yours as far as everything about it exept mine had WAIL-FM instead of KISS-FM. WAIL was an R'nB radio station in New Orleans that featured a lot of the Garagy stuff around that time. The selection was the same though. Great record! Peace.

Derrick: looks like you've already found it, but 'She's So Divine' was first released on Arista in the US (Arista CP -721) if you still need to track it down.

Sometimes I could get it in barely. I had a few mixes I recorded back then, but sadly they are gone. I would kill to have them back(along with the "pause button" mixes I did in 1984-1985). I remember they would play a lot of the NY Garagy stuff along with stuff like Uptown-I'm Losing You,Eddy Grant-Electric Avenue,Kraftwerk-Numbers,Bar Kay's-She Talks to Me with her Body and locals like Chocolete Milk Who's Gettin' it Now,etc. I don't remember them playing anything older than a year on the mixed show which ment no 70's disco. Sometimes they would broadcast from a club live. I moved back to Dallas in the Summer of 1983 so I lost touch with that station. I don't know the whole history of that station, but I think saadir could give you a little more history than me. Peace. http://photos.friendster.com/photos/49/75/215794/692734597391l.jpg

Sometimes I could not get a clear signal but most of the time I would get it in perfect. I live there inbetween times I lived in Dallas. I lived in BR from jan 1982 to June 1983,so that was the times I was listening to,and recording WAIL. Damn I wish I had those tapes back! I remember they would play Garagy stuff as well as stuff like Uptown,Eddy Grant,Kraftwerk,Tom Tom Club, etc. Saadir could probably tell you more about the history of WAIL.

Sorry for the scan cutoff. I have a crappy scanner. You get the Idea.
Peace. </font>
thanks Walter for your words and the scan:) i went on a google search but i could not find anything on that station...back in tampa, you would be hard-pressed to hear an old Prelude/West End track on one of those old school shows on the r&b stations (usually it goes as far as "you're the one for me" and "time") although on one occasion, they did play "beat the streets"...
going back to WAIL-fm, were there certain songs/artists that would be pretty much popular only within New Orleans? i'm thinking of groups such as "Family Players" and "Muchos Plus"....

Sorry for my crappy scanner. Peace. </font>
WAIL had a mix show with DJ Slick Leo mixing live
from the Famous Theatre.
Slick Leo played disco, no doubt about it. It wasn't "deep" but it was the sure shot throwdown.
Slick played everything from Grace to Yes to New Edition to Cybotron, early Hip Hop, Queen, Newcleus, Madonna to Diana to MFSB.... you get the point. Cameo, Indeep, West St. Mob...
SLICK LEO IS MY INSPIRATION!
Anyway WAIL got switched to lite rock and the Famous was torn down! The mixshow was every Friday and Sat nite. I'd be listening on the old school family stereo box with my little tape recorder set up next to the speaker so I could tape the show! I was too young to go, but me and Black Duke would beg his older brothers to sneak us in!
Man, I'm getting frozen in memories here. Anyway I've been researching the more physical attributes of the Famous and WAIL. Dug up some shit about when the Famous was an old neighborhood movie house! The more I learn the more I'll share.

"WAIL Slidell!" I remember the loud station ID. The first time I heard GLOBE/Whiz Kid "Play That Beat", the full version with all the snippets of songs, was on WAIL. Great memories of a winter holiday.

I don't have a WAIL mixtape but I do have a tinny old cassette I made one night from the La Quinta hotel in Metairie. When the ID voiceover said "Slidell" I had to get out my map! That was a great winter for music as I drove down from Winnipeg to Pensacola via soul/funk stations in Kansas City, Wichita (yes, Wichita!), OK City, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Mobile. Cheryl Lynn "Encore" may not have been a new release, I really can't remember, but the first or second time I ever heard a DJ mess with two copies of a record was in Dallas, with that song. Evelyn King's "Action" was played to death in every city, Keith LeBlanc's "Malcolm X" was big, and I think that was the period when Prince released "Irresistible". That station in Mobile was far and away the best; that's the first and only time I heard an FM radio station play "Flute Juice" by Dave Valentin and "Out Tonight" by Dayton.

I spent all day today looking for any information
or evidence of WAIL's existence and came up
with nada! But if they were based in Slidell
that gives my research a fresh perspective! I always thought they were based out of New Orleans.
