Try as I do to get off stupid eMail group lists, I always find myself being forwarded silly shit.

Well, the same exact picture posted on this board that brought umpteen pages of discourse just made it to my eMail box.

I don't know if anyone on the FIVE forward lists with more than TWENTY FIVE ADDRESSES per group is a member of the DHP, but it might as well have been a replay. All the names I recognize in the group lists are minorities and I assume that, as these group lists match others where the eMails are about black pride or black gossip, the list is made predominantly of black folk.

All comments were derisive. As eMail is more viral than any other communications medium, we can assume that the world is ridiculing this "sister".

After a reference to Ayn Rand's work showed up on the DHP yesterday, I am inclined to post a quote from her.

"The smallest minority on earth is the individual.
Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities."

Shame on everyone in minority skin who decided to make this picture an instrument of debate and ridicule.

Would a pregnant white or hispanic girl have been better, and would you be scolding minorities for debating or ridiculing THOSE pictures?? I didn't comment on the picture in question, but a pregnant girl in a tasteless prom dress is just that, regardless of race.....JMJ

Don't introduce hypotheticals. Just deal with the post itself.

Like I said - Shame on all people in minority skin who chose to deride this girl.

And how many times must I tell you I wasn't housin' on your haircut.

As a pregnant woman I really want to know what is wrong with the girl being proud of her pregnant body? I read a thread on here where some of the fellas stepped up and said that they are attracted to pregnant women. IMO there is nothing wrong with a woman being proud of her body. Just because the dress may not be your taste doesnt mean she doesn't love it. Folks kill me passing judgement on those and their circumstances which are unknown

Folks kill me passing judgement on those and their circumstances which are unknown  mynia, sister, i hear you... but really, you've got to see the picture, tasteless, regarless of race. there are some other tasteless prom pictures floating around as well, among them--people dressed in formalized sports jerseys.

but on to the debate...
i think that in a critical/judgmental society such as this, the idle passings of ridicule will happen. who stood up and defended mullet wearers when all of those pictures were posted... i'm sure the same argument could be made in this case some one who identified with mullet wearers could have called foul. this is just an example.

the picture of the tasteless dress is not the promlem; at the root of the issue lie these questions: why do we criticize ourselves? and what is wrong with us that we participate in ridiculing others?

email and message boards are a convenient way to perpetuate bad habits.
