Greetings!
My name is Day Taylor and I'm a college student in Philadelphia. I'm in the process of conducting a major research project about the Paradise Garage. My mother was a Garage patron, and she would bump Garage music in the living room of our apartment all of the time when I was younger. I only wish that I could hear it from those infamous speakers!
I love the music that came out of the Garage so much that I've decided to dedicate at least the next two years, and possibly my graduate school career, to studying just what it was about the music, the atmosphere, and Larry Levan that created that unique place that can never be duplicated. As part of my process, I will need to conduct interviews with the people who were there.
If you live in the North Jersey/New York City or the Philadelphia area and would like to have your Garage remembrances recorded, I would greatly appreciate the chance to talk to you in person. If you don't live in the New York City area, then I'd love to conduct a telephone interview on my dime. Because most of you probably work, if you don't think that you'll have the time to conduct these types of interviews, I'd also be happy to accept emailed testimonials answering the question: "What about the Garage created an atmosphere of inclusiveness, love, and acceptance (or however you'd define the atmosphere at the Garage), and how was this the same or different from the atmosphere in my community outside of the Garage?".
I'd like to thank you in advance for at least considering talking to me. My project just wouldn't be right without (lucky) people like you who experienced the Garage firsthand.
