Has DHP always been an open forum?

On other specialty boards I visit, the moderators generally don't like it when subjects stray off topic. Some have specific forums within the board for general topics. I was going to post this question some time ago and decided against until a member raised the point that a music only discussion board would most likely be pretty boring.

I'd like to know from the people who've been here pretty much from the start whether or not this message board has always been a place to discuss just about everything or was it once a music-only board that opened up to other areas, perhaps to increase traffic?

People from what I remember have always posted topics besides music. I couple of times over the years I got concerned when I thought there were to many non-music related posts compared to music related post but the overall membership encouraged me to sit down and shut up and let things run their course. The membership was correct as usual. :D

I've been on boards before where they try and keep threads on topic, can't say we bother with that much...
