i'm considering buying a rane for myself for christmas. through out the years i've gone through countless number of inexpensive mixers that eventually go bad (leaky cross fader, no signal on channels, low signal on channels, etc).
had i just saved my pennies, I could have already owned a rane.

my problem is that the ranes are huge and i don't have lots of table space.

anyone have any set up suggestions or pics? i remember someone posted pics of consoles some time back.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

i've got the rane and i'm using a slanted tabletop rack case .. similar to this one

i would eventually like to build my own console for it though and ditch the rack case .. i wish you could flip the in/out panel 90 degrees so it could just sit on a tabletop with the nobs facing up (the similarly sized vestax pmc-25 has this feature) .. but i guess that wasn't possible/prioritized in this case

You'll probably need to do a custom rig as most dj coffins for sale (commercially) don't facilitate the Rane rotary mixer and expansion unit. Too bad most of what's on the market is for the standard dj setup.

In my studio, the Rane is held between two of my Technics' flight cases....the same way battle DJs place their 10" mixers between the turntable cases. By placing the turntable cases on their lids, I have enough height to accomdate the connections on the bottom of the Rane. It works well.

For a table, I use a $60 assemble-it-yourself ready-to-finish table from Lowes. It's damn sturdy and worth the cost. I think of this stuff as furniture the same way a table in my living room is.

Hi Tony,

That mixer is a great investment. You will need to find a case that is deep enough to handle the connections that are on the bottom of the mixer. The mixer (and expansion unit) is about 5 inches deep.

Here's a case that I use. You can also buy a case that is slightly slanted.

I didn't like the idea of a separate mixer flight case because they are often too high, compared to the turntables. I like everything to be on the same plane. But the Rane will be a good investment. Enjoy.
