For the ambitious: Ever ask yourself why you work
so hard? Ever feel like you are the only one putting in 100 percent while everyone else is just skating by? Ever feel like a fool for working as hard as you do?
Had a last-straw argument at work today with a guy I normally work well with. His department and one that supports us are short staffed and we are all getting edgy. For the past few weeks I have been creative enough to work around all the challenges, but not so today because I have an ear infection and had to go to the doctor. To make it short, the exchange made me tired of doing all that I do and tired of unwittingly covering for the inefficiency of others.
I would normally go to work, take my meds and deal with the pain, but I'm going to stay home tomorrow -- when we have a big deadline -- and Thursday to drive home a point that I have been making to the higher ups for weeks. I know that I am essential and I want them (especially my do-nothing boss) to feel my absence. Part of me just wants to go back to work on Friday to hand in my resignation.
they might just save you the effort on friday

do whats right for you.
if you feel like it's time to move on, do it.
we get so accustomed to our ways that sometimes it's hard for us to make that change, even if deep inside we know it is for the better.
since i was a child i have suffered from ear infections. ANNOYING to say the least
get well soon graemlins/remybussi.gif

get well soon graemlins/remybussi.gif Thanks, dear one. I only have ear infections when the stress load is too great. And then I have them chronically. It's been a long time since I've had one like this.

answer me this girlfriend, what do you want to be when you grow up? Funny a friend asked me the same thing earlier tonight. If I had all my ducks lined up I'd open up a therapy spa with massage and assorted relaxation treatments. I would want a remote wooded location at first and then to branch out with smaller city locations so stressed out working people could come in for a quick adjustment. Maybe I'll get certified and buy a chair to do the $10 for 10 minutes thing they do in New York.

I'm now learning to to cut hair, at 27 years old. I say you're never to old to start something new, so if you want to do massage, why not start freelancing, accumulating some capital, then opening up your own shop with a business loan?
You can do whatever you want, you need an avenue for getting things done and (at least in my case) getting started is the hardest part.
Good luck!

It's sort of the in thing now to open a spa. I'm not thinking of a Canyon Ranch sort of a place, but something small and attractive that would be affordable for the average person. Thanks for the encouragement.
you should check the NY TImes today, the Small Business section had some great articles about folks leaving jobs to start businesses

After years of my service being abused at the hands of my employer I did set up in business, and it has been fairly successful, but once you start you feel a constant yearning for growth. Which incidently is all good except I feel
when you a quiet patch as so many business's do. You tend to feel them a lot more due to the fact that all the extra you've invested still has to be paid to your creditors (hence time to play on DHP!). So the hard times become harder, and the stress levels a little higher which brings me to my point. Sometimes I wish I had a regular job!!
However infuriating a boss/colleagues can be that security sure can feel good.
Ear infections now they're another thing as a kid I used to get them all the time till I had my adanoids out and grommetts fitted. Now they are far less frequent, but knowing how painful they are you have done well to work at all! Never mind putting up with nauseating colleagues.
So get well soon, have a great day, and maybe cop a deaf ear rather than change jobs!
Peace. smile.gif

A little over four years ago I found myself in a similar space. On the day that I tried to stay home having been made ill by the stress and madness of my workplace I received 16 phone calls from the office. Mind you having worked 14 hours over the previous weekend essentially uncompensated and with a a raging Sinus infection they all knew I was really sick. I called my parents and told them I was quitting on the phone that day. I was persuaded to hold out for a month before giving notice but only made it 2 weeks before I exploded at the chair of the board of directors (I worked for a non-profit cultural institution) when she dictatorially undermined one of my subordinates at a ticketed public program and caused us to have to reseat nearly 100 people at a substantial financial loss. I gave notice the next morning. In the time since I have managed to maintain a modest but rewarding life as an artist in NYC with a child and without temping or waiting. Dare to fly. Your wings might surprise you.
I have been feeling like this for a while now... the problem is that what i wanted be when I grow up graemlins/conf44.gif only has day classes  and need to pay the bills..
Change is a scary thing....
But not giving up yet graemlins/nono.gif
