TRIBE FELA KUTI TRIBUTE PARTY
and launch event for FELA ( the musical)

TRIBE are back refreshed with a special Fela Kuti Tribute party on Saturday 16th October, where we pay homage to Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Nigeria's eminent musical activist and arguably the most influential artist to emerge from Africa this century. He pioneered the popular Afro beat sound in the 1970’s, a combination of traditional Yoruba music, jazz, funk and chanted vocals, fused with percussion and vocal styles, who used it to revolutionise musical structure as well as the political context in his native Nigeria, and is still very prominent in our Tribe sound today.
On the anniversary of his birth, a key date in our musical calendar we plan to revisit some of his works throughout the evening and create our own unique ‘Shrine’ experience! On the night, Fela fans will be able to discover more about the very exciting and talked about FELA Musical experience which will be kicking off at the National Theatre here in London next month after it’s run at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York!
To top things off we will be flying in Ian Friday from New York, a regular guest to Tribe as our special guest on the night. Ian has organised Fela Kuti tributes in the past in conjunction with his popular Libation party and will bring his own unique flavour to this already much talked about event.
Constantly striving to bring you the most vibrant and energetic parties in London our nomadic search for the finest venues led us to find Drop East. Formally afterhours hang out '54', it has been refurbished to a level, which matches our high standards. Expect an intimate basement vibe powered by a warm sound system.
Make sure you join us in the rhythm of deep underground house music where the Tribe crew continues to push the boundaries of the club experience. Tribe's floor is your stage for dancing and expression going from strength to strength.
