OK, I normally don't bump up my posts (and I know that y'all are annoyed at my excessive sports threads), but this is historic. African Americans are rarely thought about when it comes to football hiring in the good ole' Southeastern Conference.
Some relevant questions:
1) What will be the reaction (financially, otherwise) of Mississippi State boosters to this hiring.
2) Are the other SEC schools afraid of reactions from their boosters, some of whom have old confederate attitudes?
3) Does Chris Leak play QB at Florida if Steve Spurrier stays in Gainesville?
4) Is this hiring bigger than USC v. Alabama (1970) as the SEC's biggest step toward progress (yes, I know there's a long way to go for progress)? If requested, I'll explain USC v. Alabama.

This is definitley historic due to the history of the South East Conference when it comes to football. The Old Boy Network has been in effect for decades and it's about time this has been broken down.

Explaining USC v. Alabama (1970):
Bear Bryant (the story goes) needed public support for recruiting Black players (even thought he could have snapped his finger himself without it). So he calls his friend John McKay (USC head coach) and invites USC to Birmingham.
The Trojans go in there (with Brothas Lynn Swann, Anthony Davis and Sam "Bam" Cunningham) and spank the Tide 42-21. Cunningham has a big kick return for a touchdown. Out of this there's a famous quote from a columnist: "Sam Cunningham did more for integration at Alabama in one day than Martin Luther King did in 10 years".
After that, Bear now needs to recruit Brothas (and now he has public support). Who's one of his first recruits? Syvester Croom.
