I started getting into them before I left pittsburgh. I picked up a old 80's Centurion on ebay in great condition and did a little replacing on it. It rides real real fast.

I am thinking of building one from scratch.

I like to ride through the city at night here in chicago, but some of the roades are rough!

What kind of bikes do you have if you have one?

i have a bicycle too .. smile.gif It's an aluminium frame and it has Shimano Ultegra components.. I love cycling, but i'm not in a very good shape this year.. That sucks..

what I really love most is reading in the mountains ..both uphill / downhill.. Where I live in Belgium, there are no real mountains though...

when I was younger I did races during three years, but I was not good enough to win..

where do you cycle ?

greetings

I just got a Gary Fisher hybrid. Linda nad I enjoy riding all the time. Madison, has probably the best bike paths in the U.S. Some very scenic ones indeed.

hey lyot, it would amazing to ride in the mountains of the alps for example.

I have family in the northwest US, and there is some beautifull mountanous (sp?) roads out there I plan to hit up real soon.

My bike is good ole steel frame.

hey Gman, how do you like the hybrid style bike?

when I ride I really want to go as fast as possible so I think I am partial to strait up racing bikes.

when I ride I really want to go as fast as possible so I think I am partial to strait up racing bikes. my only goal while riding is to 'suffer'.. Not going untill you can't go any further, but a steady constant suffering ..I love riding at a heart rate that's at about 150-165 Bpm . for me that's about the point where I start producing 'lactose' (sp?) ..

In fact I did ride in the Alps last year.. Man, what an experience was that.. I'd never seen anything like that (on a bike).. The top of the pops was of course 'L'Alpe D'Huez' (Iban Mayo won the etappe in the Tour de France this year on Alpe D'Huez).. He did it in about 38 minutes.. I needed 1h02 and I can assure you that I was in very good shape at that time..

greetings,

I ride for comfort and enjoyment so the hybrid style fits me just fine. I think the longest ride I have ever done is about 35 miles. Sounds like you guys are on a different level with the suffering and all :D

35 miles is still quite long gman.

I dont race or anything myself, more just like to go as fast as possible and sometimes go for longer endurance rides.

I am thinking of trying to get into track racing tho, gotta get my legs into better shape first.

graemlins/cool_shades.gif I'm late to the thread. I've got two bikes...a Bianchi Avenue (a hybrid) and a Trek 990 (road bike). I used the hybrid on the first and only Philly to DC AIDS Ride. The other I used on two Raleigh to DC AIDS Rides. That road bike made a huge difference in how I did. Much faster and much better hill-climbing. I needed that capability in the philly-dc ride. Those pennsylvania hills were evil.

I just got back from a bike shop to pick up grips and some tools for my bike, but damn those new bikes that came out are very nice.

graemlins/cool_shades.gif You mean your welding your own frame too?

But in case you build a road bike around a (pre-bought) frame- I say do it ,it is a lot of fun to do. I built my mountain and it was very cool to stand back and say "I built that". It took a few months, but well worth the time and effort . You can get good to great parts on the net for a good price. But if you want something that is outstanding ,you'll have to pay the price. Also read up on it , road bikes are a bit different to build then a mountain.

peace,
gojay

I am thinking of starting with a frame and going from there part by part...

it will be a slow process though because dont have much funds!

New bikes are too too expensive. i will likely start with an older steel 80's frame and go from there. I intend to make a quick bike but you dont need all the current stuff to do that.

smile.gif

Plus i like the 80's bike styles better too.

I live it the N.W. Portland Oregon to be exact and my 2 loves are bicycles and house music. How odd to find a thread on a house page about bikes. My road bike is a bridgestone xo-1 which is a cross bike with moustache bars. Man, the bars to me are so much better than standard drop bars. Ive got a couple mountain bikes as well because we got some killer trails up here! Mt Hood is an hour away, Mt St. Helens is 1.5 hours, Mt bachelor is 2.5 hours, Mt Adams is 1.5 hours, all with killer trails. If anyone is headed out this way drop a line and we'll go for a ride. Ive even got a bike for ya! Then we'll bring the heat all nite.

yes, what an amazing area you live in~~

I have family in Portland and Washington sate by Mt.Reineer.

I go hiking up by Reineer once every year or two. I wanted to be there for early august this year but no vacation time from work.

I want to get into Mountain biking but see myself doing that when I live closer to a hilly area. I am sure around chicago there are trails, but it would be tight to do some downhill type stuff.

For now the love is road biking though. You cant beat the speed and adrenaline of almost hitting taxis every 6th stop light... graemlins/scared.gif

What is the house scene like in Portland?

I came to chicago to get a first hand experience of house and its roots. Ultimately I plan to end up out west though for both family reasons and alot of personal ones also. I have always had low expectations when it comes to the types of house I am into.

Good looking out~

*Bling!!* It's my baby. After years of racing on bikes that were inferior to my cycling peers' machines, I built this Schwinn Paramount Ti when I started working full-time....

DHP Europe heads all ought to pull together, and do the London to Brighton run. We used to do it every year. It's 56 miles through city, and beautiful countryside.

It raises loads of money for good causes, and caters for every kind of cyclist young, and old, racers, mountain bikers. You also get mad team bikes with silly ammounts of passengers!

Do you think you could tow a DJ, and a pair of decks on a trailer?
