I have been looking on E-Bay and other dj equipment internet stores which I thought would carry them. None of the internet stores or even e-bay have them. I don't know if I am searching under wrong titles or what but I can't seem to find any, but for the exception of one. Gemini eq kill swithces, and I am not purchasing that because it deosn't have what I'm looking for.

What I am looking for has to be 19 inches in length so that it may be able to fit my case and no larger than 2 inches in height. It would also have to have rotary dials for highs, mids and lows. I don't want to go over $150-$200 max. What would you guys suggest?

If any of you guys can help me out with internet stores to go to, or even local Chicago stores that might have them and also give me the right terminology, I would greatly appreciate it. So far I have done searches under EQ killer, frequency eliminator, EQ eliminator and Equalizer. HELP!!!!!

Oh yeah, what the hell is a Aural exciter and what does it do?

Peace V-ROD

You can try the Electrix EQ Killer [It comes with a 19 inch adaptor], it's pretty much an EQ Killer/X-over and you could probably find one in your price range. There is a lot of silly terminology around and frankly I don't know what is the right one to use!??!?

Happy Hunting!

V-Rod, what does this equipment do?

I was looking for something a while back, that would boost all outward signals, and limit them to the same (for badly pressed vinyl etc), is this what you are looking for?

If it's not does anyone have an Idea if such a device exists?

It sounds like you're just looking for a rotary parametric EQ. I don't believe they are actually called "killers", but I could be wrong.

electrix has some nice stuff, my music-partner has 2 of their devices in his rack...but i believe they're not producing anymore..

Olaf You know Leonard has one that looks just like the one on that Electrix website, but i believe he told me that they don't do those any more or should i say that particular model. Frankly I forgot about that model just cause he said so, therefore I didn't think about looking into it. now I will.

Hey Danny, what my describtion of what I'm looking for is this: This EQ "killer" is supposed to take out the highs should I choose to and leave nothing but the mids and lows. The same thing goes if i was to take out the lows and leave the highs and mids. Kind of like kill swithes on mixers that have highs (treble), mids, and low (bass), but instead of swithes or buttons, I want a stand alone rotary console. I might be a little confused about my disciption but for now this is the best way I can describe it.

Thanks for looking out though!

I found a bright yellow EQ killer at a used gear store for $50. I like it. You can 'fade' kill each particular band with the knobs, or 'quick' kill with the buttons (and they light up when you press 'em).

You can set it up so that pushing one of the buttons kills the band, OR brings the band in. You can also choose to temporarily remove a band as long as you hold the button or kill it at once when you press the button.

Also, you can adjust both the low/mid x-over and the mid/high crossover points. There's a separate little knob for each x-over.

There's a line/phone switch for each channel. You plug both turntables into the back and you can switch between the two. Then, there's an output for each table to go into the separate channels of your mixer. Of course you can only eq one table at a time. It's a pretty rugged unit. I'd be surprised if you can't find them on ebay.

Peace V-ROD In simple terms, an Aural Exciter is designed to make your music sound "full".

Here's a couple of good articles from people who can explain it better than I can, the 2nd one goes into pretty good detail about how/what an aural exciter actually does......

The Electrix EQ killer is a great piece of gear if you can get your hands on them. After playing with them you really don't want to play with out.

V-Rod,
Try the Vestax DCR-1200 frequency eliminator. It looks like the old school 3-way crossover with 3 knobs for the lows, mids, & highs. Each one has a full defeat and there are two aditional knobs for phase shifting. If you like come by the house, I have one in my rack. You can check it out for yourself. Hit me up!

the electrix eq killers are great, i have 2 of them. you have to have 2 in order for it to be 19 inches long. you link 2 together to make it 19 inches. one of them is only like 9.5 inches.

they are not made any more so you have to find them used. keep looking on ebay.

you might consider the pioneer efx 500. it has a crossover on it.

you might consider the pioneer efx 500. it has a crossover on it. The Pioneer is dope, but it does tend to distort easily and causes a bad link in the audio chain. If you play on a set-up that has a Pioneer box and a Rane, switch the effects send off and on,you will here a major difference.

It's a cool toy,but you really have to know your levels and sound, not to distort.

gojay </font>[/QUOTE]Just FYI... you can still get the Aphex 104, sometimes even new, still in the box at a store for less than $200.... when they came out with the 204, the prices on the 104 dropped dramatically and if you want one just to use for recording mixes etc, the 104 is perfectly fine.

Thanks fellas for the great info relayed here. The eq killer that I used at the attic wasn't a Vestax, it was something else, I think it said DbD or something like that. I had a really good buzz off the different kinds of beer I had that evening and so I beat the shit out of the club with that eq killer. Anyway I did see that Vestax 1200 you guys was talking about at midwest stereo here in Chicago and was very impressed with it, although the price was steep maybe I will find one later on when the price comes down. Now that Isolator looks exactly like the one at the Attic.

Hey Greg, I might just take you up on that deal. graemlins/grinyes.gif Oh buy the way, I did find an Electix eq killer on ebay for $80 bucks but it didn't have the power supply cord, so my excitment was shot down immediatly.

Nice record cleaner Gojay!
