Frankie Knuckles 1977

A few months ago, I stopped in Chicago on my way from Salt Lake City to Miami, where I was moving to. I'd started DJing, House Dancing, and producing just under two years before that, and wanted to soak up a little bit of House Music history. So I linked up with Julius the Mad Thinker (http://www.facebook.com/juliustmt), who took me to a spot where DJ Lego (http://www.myspace.com/lego24) was playing. I also wanted to check out The Warehouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warehouse_%28nightclub%29) in person, so Julius drove us out to the first two locations for the legendary club, where Frankie Knuckles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankie_Knuckles), one of House Music's pioneers and often credited as the DJ who sparked the industry, held his famous DJ residency from 1977-1982. Before I left Chicago the next morning, I returned to 206 South Jefferson Street to dance outside the location of the original Warehouse. The excitement and feeling of House Dancing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_dance) in that spot, along with a helpful voiceover describing this new urban dance style, is included in the video below. I hope you enjoy and share it.

Keep dancing, because dancing will set us free.

The excellent song in the video is "Gonna Be Alright (Original Mix)" (http://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=show&fc=tpage&cr=titles&cv=61590) by Martin Dawson (http://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=search&ss=Martin+Dawson&sc=artists) and Andre Crom (http://www.traxsource.com/index.php?act=search&ss=andre+crom&sc=artists&cf=all&gf=0), available for purchase on OFF Recordings (http://soundcloud.com/off-recordings). Buy it!
