SICK.
Ian Friday, who I met for the first time a few weeks ago, ripped it. He started off kinda percussive/swing beatish, then he proceded to beat it quite proper. Class act. The beautiful and talented Jazmina gave a surprise performance in Camacho's honor. Wonderful performance. I've heard her singing a lot of soprano, but her alto register is serious, man. Serious. This dude, whose name escapes me, also performed a pretty nice song.
I'm at the bar(of course) and this dude approached me and said, "Yo, you DJ, right?" I got a look at him and he turned out to be one of my friendlier DJ rivals from high school, this cat I knew as Quadee. We were like, "WHOA!!!", had a big hug and began chatting.
I told him about Working Underneath's work and about the recent release of "Speak to Me". He jumped in and said, "Speak to me? Wait... I play that on my show. I said, "Show?" He said, "Yeah, on WBLS. Man, I'm Antoine Qua." I said, "What? Get the f*ck outta here!" I've heard the name DJ Qua a million times and had no idea that I've known this cat for over 20 years. He breaks a lot of new artists on the radio for invaluable exposure. We exchanged info and agreed to hook up in the future.
Crazy.
P.S. There was a confirmed Jersey sighting of liLRay last night as well...
