I have a MPC 2000 that I want to hook up to my computer.I don't have a midi interface, but I have a USB midi controller. Can't I run the MPC via the midi on the controller and still get the sounds from it?
If I have to buy an interface,my budget is 300 bucks.Any leads/tips will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

If the midi controller you have has midi I/O, not just usb, you should be able to do it. All you need is one midi cable running from midi-out of controller to midi-in of mpc and then make sure you're mpc is on the right midi channel as the track in the sequencer and that the mpc is set to slave.
if you decide to pick up a midi patch bay I'd go with a motu midi express xt (with usb). the older model has external power as well which is useful if you want to have the option to turn the computer off. m-audio midisports are ok too and cheap. Both are in your price range.
you may also have midi i/o on your audio interface. most have at least one.
hope this helps.
