Melting Pot celebrates a major landmark as we reach our 10th Anniversary!

To mark the occasion, we have invited back an old friend from New York, who happens to be one of the best DJs around, Body & Soul's Joaquin “Joe” Claussell.

We gave Joe his Scottish debut many years ago, one that still reverberates even now. A DJ who plays in the New York tradition handed down from the likes of David Mancuso and Larry Levan, that good music is good music no matter the genre! So you are as likely to hear a disco record, as you would a techno/house record, next to rock, soul, whatever! All played with incredible energy and passion.

For Melting Pot, a club built as a tribute to NYC and club nights such as Body & Soul, we can’t think of a better placed guest to help us celebrate this milestone than Joe!

We also have former Melting Pot resident DJ Billy Woods re-joining Andrew and Simon for the night, so expect to hear all the music from the past decade that has made Melting Pot what it is - from The Riverside Club to our current home at The Admiral. If that wasn’t enough we also have Thunder Disco Club, fresh from their sell out nights at SWG3, making their debut for us too!

Two floors of music, UREi set ups on both, and hundreds of balloons!

See you on the dancefloor!

Joaquin “Joe” Claussell:

Joe’s credentials are unquestionable; learning from the master that was Larry Levan, taking over Dancetracks record store in NYC and turning it into THE record store to visit. In 1996 he hooked up with Francois K and Danny Krivit to form Body & Soul, the weekly Sunday party in NYC that lasted 7 years. In that time it became an international institution, with clubbers jetting into New York especially. Body & Soul was thought of as the closest New York had to the Paradise Garage since its closure in 1987, with its forward thinking musical policy of pushing new sounds, but respecting the rich heritage of disco, funk and soul that built the New York club scene. International dates exploded at this point, and Joe continues to play all over the world to this day. Body & Soul carries on as a special event, around 3 times a year in New York, with an annual weekend tour to Japan, and dates from as far afield as Brazil, to London, to Singapore.

He has also honed his craft as a music producer, with scores of sought after releases, on his own Spiritual Life, and latterly Sacred Rhythm labels, as well as remixes for the likes of Ten City, Nitin Sawhney, Double Exposure, Femi Kuti, and more. His Translate mix album from 2006 stands the test of time.
