23 years after she didnt chart at all with "Walking on thin ice" she sits atop the Dance Chart. Thanks to the remix project that was done. Various remixers were asked to do their own re-working of the song, including Danny Tenaglia and the Pet Shop Boys. She had no idea back in the 80s the song was an underground club hit. She also said that John told her the song would be her first number 1. Who knew it would be all this time later? The song is dear to her as it was recorded right b4 John was murdered. Yoko is 70.

I've only heard the Danny Tenaglia. If you are into trance/progressive, you might find it good. I like it. Can any top the orginal. No. Same could be said about the EWF remix project.

It's a shame that such an underground song didn't get remixed by producers who could of marketed it to a crowd who love and still play the original. At least with EWF project some soul was left..

Oh...I see now!!! I was wondering why she has been doing the talk show route. She was on Conan and danced around with him all throughout the interview. two days after that I saw her on Good Day Live dancing with Julian Barbree to her hit. I was wondering what was going on with all the dancing. She looks better now than when she was younger. I remember the video back in the day on MTV(when they acctually played videos). I seem to remember a lot of Geisha Drags in there. I'll have to check it out. From #9...#9...#9...#9..to #1. ;)

here is the most current chart. chart position doesn't always indicate the quality of the song, but more who is promoting the record. it's all a game of numbers. graemlins/stupid.gif

the panel is made up of approx. 150 reporters. most of these jocks are playing "cheese". it's very rare that a quality song is promoted to this panel.

Yoko was interviewed recently, she explained how she spent her 70th birthday dancing allnight, as she never used to do this whilst with John, as John wasn't a keen dancer.

IMO
1) liked the FKEK dub on the double pack
2) DT dub on the 3 rd vinyl
3) Peter Rauhoffer on the double pack as is the FKEK dub which is my prefared as already said
ps. i dont c the DT mix as progressive or trance just as Tribal house music a bit hard YEP but that is how i c it & it is groovy as shit
I did not buy the vinyl even tough i was tempted to do it but there is so much good material that somethings u have to cut even tough i still am interested cause of that FKEK dub
for your info there is 3 vinyls & here are all the versions:
ONO: Walking On Thin Ice (Twisted US) - House = double 12": Walking On Thin Ice (Danny Tenaglia "Walked Across The Lake" mix, Peter Rauhofer "Future" mix, Pet Shop Boys electro mix & extended "Dance" mix, Rui Da Silva's "Kismet" mix, FKEK (Francois Kevorkian & Eric Kupper) "Hard As Ice" dub, Orange Factory "Larry" dub & "Yoko-appella")
ONO: Walking On Thin Ice (remixes) (Twisted US) - House = 12": Walking On Thin Ice (Danny Tenaglia dub, Felix Da Housecat "Tribute" mix, FKEK (Francois Kevorkian & Eric Kupper) vocal mix)

IMO she did know it was a hit back then, didn't she go to the Garage when Larry played it?
And I'm just remembering what I read somewhere, so don't attack... :D

Few points on this one as I am very familiar with the project and how it came together.

First off, she did not know that Walking on Thin Ice was a "hit" - she knew :Larry played it at the Garage but he played a lot of obscure music there that never got any attention anywhere else.

Second, there are some mixes in the project that are worth checking out.

Third, Walking on Thin Ice is only one of the MANY of her back catalog tracks being remixed for this project. It was just the one that had enough history to actually make #1, and that's excellent for the remixers who include Francois K and Eric Kupper and Danny Tenaglia.

Finally, I think it's great that someone of Yoko's creative energy level is paying attention to the club "scene" and its music inasmuchas no one else seems to. She wanted to do this project. She wanted to present her music to a different audience. She funded the whole thing and probably isn't making a penny (like she needs it).

At least Yoko has demonstrated that her music is not made to sell but to appeal to people with left-field taste and progressive mindsets. If you've never heard it, take a listen to "Death of Samantha" ... then talk to me.

BTW, until this project, I was very prejudiced against Yoko for absolutely no reason (except that some of her songs sounded like cats f*cking) - but some of her work is exceptional. and she is an interesting and inspirational individual. Did you see her? She's freakin 70 and looks 40. That's what happens when you do what you LOVE for your entire life.

She was on Late With Conan last week and yeah, she looks a lot younger than her age. Her latest thing is getting undressed in a burlap bag, in case you missed the show.
