I went to Shelter this week. I have not attended in several months. Did they have a special event going on, because I saw a large group of Asian in the club. The club has definitely changed since my last time there. The music was good, but maybe I went to early. I left about 5:30am.

Imma chill from the Shelter for a while. It has not done anything for me as of late. Thought about going Sunday when I woke up but was too relaxed to even consider taking the drive.

Do they have an Asian floor now or they like house music. That kind of freaked me out, never saw that many Asians at a house music party.

They just like the music. Unless they had a special party in the basement.

That's a good thang to have other folks liking the music. We always talk about Europeans and blacks fighting over who represents this music. Asian may be takin over the house scene.

Downstairs has a lesbian party that goes on until 4 or 5, and it's not Asian-focused as far as I can tell.

I hope we can have a shelter good time...April 12-13...that's my shelter weekend experience...
is there a problem with Asians supporting dance music?
Basecore Boy

No, it is a good thang. The more people the bigger the scene.

Asians as you call them have practically single handedly supported the music since the very early nineties and probably earlier. They, the Japanese, according to at least one conversation I had with Kevin Hedge are the reason he can dedicate all his time to making music, they buy his (Blaze's) CDs like the shit was going out of style, while we wine and bitch about everything under the sun here. Yep that's the Asians for you and lets not even talk about the support they give to the Loft! There is no thanking those folks for how much they love the music and spend money to support. All of our biggest DJ's make buco (sp?) $$ in Japan, these guys spend upwards of $40 US just to get in the door to hear these DJs, need I say more? They turn out when Timmy plays there, so when I see em in the house I'm tickled pink. I showed up at 8:30am and I did not see an overwhelming number myself.

I was at this restaurant in Tribecca on Saturday.
Funny thing was this place was very fine dinning and VERY expensive and low and behold there was this big table of black folks in the restaurant.
I had never seen that many black folks in a fine dinning restaurant before.
Wonder what that was about?

It's funny how people look for something to attack folks. I was just surprised to see all the Asians there. The Shelter in the past had alot of blacks and latino.
They should name the board Deep House Page attacks.

This was not a pot shot at Shelter. Why is that as soon as you say the word Shelter, people look for you to be dissing them. I think people want to say bad thing about the Shelter and are just chickens to do so. I have no ill feelings for Shelter. They never crossed me and they don't stop my flow. Me and my organization have alot to benefit from the Shelter doing well. Try this with someone else. I'm not your guy.

Respect. The way your post was written did NOT convey that - if anything it made you sound ignorant. Consider thinking about what you write prior to writing and how it may be taken as offensive - which your post was to me and I ain't even Asian. Go back and read what you wrote and see if you can see how it might have been taken offensively and WHY people attacked what you wrote - again it speaks volumes. There is a REASON TAC, myself and others wrote those responses. Just because the crack pipe is there doesn't mean you have to point it out to everyone, much less smoke it. Comprende?

Stop putting spins on my writing. Aren't you one of those who were attacking me with your other friend. Oh, I see.At some point you'll stop being on the constant defensive and listen and learn. Words are not alway interpreted they way you intend - but I suppose you have to be somewhat adult to understand that - which everyone reaches that point at their own designated time. As for me attacking you with my "other friend". I have no idea what you mean. If you mean I pointed something out to you that you never considered - well then I suppose I am guilty as charged on that. Although in the future, I'd rather you name exactly who I was in cahoots with and specifically what I attacked you on - it just makes the process that much easier. smile.gif
I don't see where he was being offensive, asides from asking if there was an "asian floor" graemlins/rofl.gif
Y'all very sensitive. Unless there's some prior story or inside between you and the original poster, which there seems to be, his post taken word for word doesn't seem offensive.

I am not "trying" anything, am I clear? I call it the way I see it as you claim to be doing. I did write that I'm probably getting paranoid but you ignore that. I left myself a little bit of space because I'm essentially an optimist. So let me spell it out since you clearly asked why "people respond like this".
It was just 1996 when these here boards lit up with "the Shelter's goin' down" "ain't nobody showin' up at the Shelter no more" "the core Shelter crowd doesn't come any more, it ain't black enough". So when I start reading insinuations that the "shelter's not black enough" AGAIN in whichever form that insinuation comes, I ain't feelin' it. I can't get any clearer in explaining myself.
I expect you will repeat yourself and write that you were just making an observation without any agenda attached to it, and thats ok too I truly hope you're sincere. But there is one thing I've learned on these here boards and that is that EVERYONE and I repeat EVERYONE has an agenda. Mine is to keep the party goin. I care about the music, its the only regularly running party that makes no compromises, you never step into the Shelter and wonder. You know its black music, Timmy makes sure you know it. My father taught me that before I ever knew there was a Timmy Regisford, I inherited his love of it and I support it. I don't try to give it fancy f**ckin names to please anybody else's palate.
So I attended the party back then when there were maybe a 100 people on the floor, and I said to myself I will be here till I'm the last one. I will pass on this torch if I have to freakin' party till I'm 70 to do it. That's my friggin' agenda, out there for everyone to read. I don't get paid for it, I'm not affiliated in the business of Shelter or any other organization in any which way. I just know that the music and the culture is a part of my life and for whatever its worth I think its opened up my eyes and my world. What's your agenda?
I keep reading and don't see what others see. Negativity.Allow me to explain, and I'm not trying to be a smart-ass. You posted this:
"I went to Shelter this week. I have not attended in several months. Did they have a special event going on, because I saw a large group of Asian in the club. The club has definitely changed since my last time there. The music was good, but maybe I went to early. I left about 5:30am."
In particular, this line is what seems to have gotten folks attention: "The music was good, but maybe I went too early."
I think people interpreted this as "the music was good, but the scene/vibe was not." if that is the interpretation, the inferrence is that the scene was not good because of the presence of a lot of Asian folks. This is a leap of association but it is based solely on your prior comment about the abundance of Asian people that night. The further implication of "maybe I went too early" is that "perhaps it would have been better if I waited until the Asian folks had left/more regs showed up".
Again, it is completely possible that this was not your intention. However, it was interpreted as such, so people asked you to explain yourself.
We all know that by posting something in a public forum, we run the risk of our post being misinterpreted. All we can do is defend it or try to clarify it further.
From your responses, I do believe that this was not what you meant by your original post. But as we all know, race, support for the scene, and above all else, SHELTER, are sensitive topics on the DHP.
Peace.

I left about 5:30am.I think board members are being over zealous here as to the opening post.First of all he states that he went to the Shelter and admits he has not attended in several months. He says this as way of explanation to his question"Did they have a special event going on?" The reason he is asking this is because he saw a lot of Asians there and in the past times he has went to shelter there has never been large amounts of "Asians" which he confirms by saying that Shelter has definitely changed since the last time he went here.
He does not say that too many Asians spoil the mix or criticize them or the Shelter infact he says the music was good.
Too many of dhp members attack prematurely and form petty cliques which in the end will alienate newer people who have a contribution to make and ultimately the demise of the board.
Take time to read g-man's comments about the personal attacks, I feel he is getting tired of having to adjudicate between who talks the worst shit.(myself included)
The board is a labour of love for him and it wouldn't surprise me if he just closes the message board and carries on putting up the mixes because after all it is about the music isn't it?
Think twice before you type once.

I went to Shelter this week. I have not attended in several months. Did they have a special event going on, because I saw a large group of Asian in the club. The club has definitely changed since my last time there. The music was good, but maybe I went to early.

Think twice before you type once.</font>
Indeed you have a slight point.
Although..there is no clique..there are just many people who happen to agree on something...it is perpetual...you never see people arguing.."yo Timmy is the best, yadadadada...." OR "Timmy gets no Respect"...the arguments are always over someone putting out some bait and when bitten starts to whine a lil bit.
As per your remark..the same can be said about people who in all reality are insulting everyone else's intelligence with the fart breathed stuff they post...just to prompt response.

What's your agenda?this is why i spend way too much time reading this message board. thanks maria.
Dj 138 and Flypitcher, I applaud the way the two of you addressed this issue.
People have feelings, posted messages are misinterpreted all the time. It's important we all keep as much of an open mind as possible when handling issues like this.
