tonight, I'm proud to announce the relaunch of 120 Below, "my piece of heaven" in this cluttered club world - focusing on a broad variety of sultry, sexy, sleazy and downtempo grooves ranging from Curtis Mayfield and Donny Hathaway to Sweetback and Gwen Guthrie (with a little house thrown in for good measure)...
Musical selectors for the evening include myself, Hunter Wilson of Hysteria Records and DJ Sima of FOXY LADIES. We'll be doing the party in conjunction with the FOXY LADIES crew (they DO live up to their name, too ;) ) every alternating Wednesday (you know, the nights we're not doing Chateau Noir!).
It happens at ABAYA (144 E Houston @ Avenue A) -- The launch tonite will start at 11 (after a fashion industry soiree) and will go till the wee hours. There is NO COVER. In two weeks, when we do it again, the door will open at 9.
It's a lot of fun to do these non-house centric parties and still have the freedom to play great music. There is so much out there that I love to share with people who qualify for "deep" status - I hope to see some of you out to enjoy it!
