gotta grab the kids
and drive my big car
not too far
to breakfast
In the drive-thru
I haven't a care
exhaust chokes the air
My mind's at ease
no memories
of E. coli burgers
or mad cow disease
Can I get those
sausage biscuits
with egg and cheese
Please
Next stop
the super store
where my dollar
buys me more
A 10th set of sheets,
chemicals to clean
vanity toilet seats,
disposable everything,
and candle wax
that helps me relax
Freedom fries
in supersize
Value packs
of candy, cookies, snacks
trigliceride heart attacks
in stacks and stacks
of pretty packages
to throw away
(Just truck it off
to some other place
that takes cash for trash
and makes mountains
out of muni waste)
At the checkout
add a magazine
with tips on getting lean
Plan to eat more
vegetables and fruits
take long walks
in new sweatsuit
to reduce my gut
and hips and thighs
But no matter how hard I try
can't figure out why
I can't stick with a plan
Too stressed out
gaming to work
with the big man
But I gotta play
so I can pay
the mortage
cover the SUV
my plasma screen TV
get frequent flier
trips to Italy
summer at Martha's V.
