A friend asked me to make her a dub CD for her store. I just picked up that High Fidelity Dub Sessions 3 LP on Guidance so I put alot of that in the mix with some very random reggae stuff old & new. My friend is an old punk rocker, hence The Clash & Bad Brains. I threw in some classic dancehall joints and Sade too. This is some real chill out type shit. Enjoy.

Yeah, I kinda liked that first Human Right's album at the time (It's About Luv). It was no Bad Brains but it had some OK tunes. I don't know if I ever got any of the other ones after that.
HR is one of those weird semi-genius types like ODB that's just too much of a **** up to ever really realize their full potential. Like ODB, he's badly in need of medication.
My friend was on tour with The Beastie Boys on one of their License To Ill tours. Bad Brains was supposed too open the whole tour, which would have made them a fvcking household name and finally gotten them paid. 5 minutes before they were supposed to go on at the very first show, HR freaked out, beat up his own manager, and stormed out. The rest of the band was like "you gotta be kidding me..." He sabotaged their success so many times it's not even funny.
Nevertheless, that first record, the Roir cassette, to me is the zenith of hardcore. I really don't think it ever got any better than that. They're like The Stooges of hardcore.

i sampled a bad brains track a while ago for a hip hop beat i was ****ing with...the beat morphed as i worked on it and i ended up dropping the sample.
i never play bad brains out, i just dig em man.
if i had those dubs, im sure i would rock them here and there...maybe lay some scratches over them or somethin...
of course, ive always played alot of different stuff at once...it's all music to me.

graemlins/spanka.gif I don't find much use for dub reggae in my house sets. If I had a 12 hour gig like Timmy and I could really stretch out, I feel like I could dig deep and fvck with people's heads. Unfortunately for me, my house gigs are far and few between, and I'm usually getting on for like an hour or two right at the peak of the night. This ain't too condusive to slowing things down to 70 bpm in my opinion. However, when I play hip hop / reggae nights, I can pull out this older reggae stuff.

HOUSE MUSIC as a WHOLE S U C K Z no outside influences challenging listeners & dancers
i mean ya know how MUCH dub has influenced hip hop and house/dance/club music people need 2 FEEL that relationship
with other styles extend the vibe a bit surprise us and yourself might give you and this vibe an EDGE it has obviously loss

The owner ran up to the booth in a panic and asked me why the fvck I was playing heavy metal. The promoter, who was an old HC kid like me, told him to chill. Some things are easier said than done.

i was listening to some stuff recently with an up and coming producer, and made a reference to dub, because the record we were playing had a lot of dub influences on it, and he had no clue what the hell i was talking about...he was like, dub!?

graemlins/jpshakehead.gif I definitely see your point and i hope to do just that, expand my playlist at house music parties. As we all know, there are a lot of factors involved.
When Francois K got on the decks at the Shelter Anniversary, he opened with some ambient dub then went right in to some old rockers tune (Diseases maybe? Can't remember). Then he played Lauryn Hill and it was even slowed down. I was like "WOW". His timing was crucial though. It was already late in the morning and heads had been up at 125 bpm for 15 hours already. Plus he has built a reputation which allows him to take such risks. I hope to one day have the attention of that deep of a crowd who will follow me wherever I lead them. Right now, I'm just getting my bearings in this house thing. All in good time.

didn't check the CD yet but will soon...i think there is something in the universe pulling towards the energy of music like this...i've been on a Brains kick for like a month, you put it on their CD, i've heard plenty o' people talking about Brains and Black Rock Coalition, Fishbone, hardcore, this post, blackholes emitted -57 decibel bass freq., etc.
