sorry magic i've always wanted to say that!!

Its a nice re-issue nicely pressed I played it at my classics party earlier this year and it worked like magic
I still wouldn't mind a good re-edit though

Both mixes of "C is for Cookie" are rubbish. "Pinball Number Count" is, as ever, ace.

I've known people to play some crazy stuff (hell I have too!) but "C is for Cookie"? I saw a beginning DJ play it a a restaurant and we laughed at him the whole night.

He countered with saying, "but it is a Larry Lavan remix" and we laughed even harder. We said, "if Larry remixed some doo-doo, would you still play it? It is still doo-doo."

But then again, maybe I just don't know...what is the history on this? graemlins/cool_shades.gif

magic_juan graemlins/conf44.gif </font>[/QUOTE]It's an edit. I guess the original is really short? It doesn't sound much different to listening to it on Sesame Street. graemlins/rofl.gif

It has some nice drum breaks but IMO the music is pretty naff.

The Roy Thode mix on the flip of the original is generally considered superior. Does this re-issue not contain that? At least this doesn't look the same as the original.

ok, cool. My DJ spider senses told me to not take this seriously. The only problem is that I know that there are people in Chicago on the north side that actually believe this to be a serious collectable record. And they play it like they are educating people.

some cats just don't know...not every record that came out before 1988 was a classic. graemlins/cool_shades.gif

true
the main reason this may be considered a classic or collectable is the fact that it was larrys 1st remix (i think thats correct anyhow)

It is Levan's first mix, and it does have some nice breaks. I think the original is worth about $60

Whether it would have been re-issued or anyone would be in the slightest bit interested in it if his name wasn't on it is debatable though.

Please, ya'll-I've already started banging that theme from "strawberry shortcake" remixed by Tom Moulton.

Get up on it! If you don't know, now you know... graemlins/rofl.gif

For those who don't know...

This is one of the biggest breakbeats from the early years of hiphop ever released....It ranks right along with "I Can't Stop", "Super Sperm", "Sing Sing" and a few others as B-Boy Musts and block party rockers...This record was hard to get when it was first released and the fact that it was LL's first mix (known to me after the "daze") makes it even more collectible...

Record was rocked by the likes of DJ Hollywood, Eddie Cheeba, Grandmaster Flowers, The L Brothers, Grandmaster Flash and all the heavy old school hiphoppers...If you have a REAL system then you will experience some SERIOUS SOUND...This joint KILLED in the Roxy and at Empire Roller Rink in Brooklyn

Beware..most copies from "real" dj's will have serious cue burn.

and now ya know

I picked this up at Gramaphone a few months ago only because the sleeve indicated it was his(Larry's) first Mix. Personally, I like the Roy Thode mix better.

After witness Chi-town heads grooving to 'Sanford and Son' 'Charlie Brown Theme Song' and a few cuts from 'The Wiz' soundtrack, on many occassions, I can see a few heads digging this one.

Actually, the 12 inch single is of better quality. It is a historical record. It was Larry's very first remix ever, thanks to Mel Cheren. B blessed. Goes good with Erucu. J Jackson

Peace Always
