+PROFILE: Jose G!

This month BounceFM talks with rising NY DJ Jose G who boasts dual "underground" credibility. As a veteran of the Paradise Garage, Jose got to see the legend Larry Levan perform his magic. As a train operator on the NYC Subway System Jose keeps the underground moving every day. In this unique profile BounceFM gains an understanding of Jose G the DJ and Jose G the train operator. This is his story. Enjoy!

"When it comes to bringing the drama: raising the element of excitement...working a record...playing interesting new music - Joaquin Clausell. When it comes to digging DEEEEEEEEP in the crates, and having the balls to play classics that other DJ won't even touch - Danny Krivit.
My favorite All-Time: Larry Levan. NO ONE can touch him."
-On his favorite DJ

"Another time was when I played at the Limelight for the Lesbian Pride party. I played classics, R-n-B, and House to a club of wall-to-wall women...literally!! This party was on fire, to the point a butch had her lover eating . . ."
-On his memorable DJ experience

"Stop the f*ckin' backstabbing to get ahead - that's NOT part of the scene! I hear 'that's the business'...BULL****!"
-On today's scene

"it's time we introduce this music to the next generation of dancers...and, how about this - giving unknown DJs a chance to shine! Now there's a novel concept!! Mixtape Sessions and Bang The Party are the only gatherings I see doing it. "
-On how to save the scene

Special thanks to Jose G. for his time and for keepin' it real! Special thanks to Adam Cruz for the introduction to Jose G!

Jose G with Adam Cruz

REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD INTERVIEW!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

BEST PART (...I was there to testify to this)

11. WHAT WAS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AS A SPECTATOR?
Don't get me started!!! OK, I'll stick to one.
Grace Jones at the Paradise Garage. The club was in total black light...the curtains rose while Grace was singing...you can hear her, but couldn't see her. On each side of the stage were pillars, black with white Keith Haring 'atomic baby' designs all around them. Suddenly, in the middle of song, she peals off one of the pillars...covered in charcoal, with white Keith Haring 'atomic baby' designs all over her. EVERYONE was in ****in' shock!!! I haven't seen any other singer top her performances.

Thank You JOSE G for sharing - and thank YOU Muema for the work.

p.s.

Er ... where's the rest of this quote? What was the butch eating? graemlins/rofl.gif
Could Grace Jones be any more striking ... I think not.

Finally while we may not want it to be ... Sadly backstabbing is very much a part of the scene.
