I have just made an MD for my Dad back in the UK, it was really inspiring trying to program my set with him in mind and hopefully I've gone some way to show that some of his influences have rubbed off on me.

The music just seemed to flow and fit perfectly today when I had a specific person in mind, it was really freaky. I just wondered if anyone else had done something similar?

Music for my Dad mix:

o Dan Hartman -Sigh of Relief.
o Jah Wobble - City.
o Martin Hannett - The Second Aspect Of The Same Thing.
o A Certain Ratio - Knife Slits Water.
o Brian Eno & David Byrne - The Jezebel Spirit.
o Vivien Goldman - Private Armies (Dub Version).
o Section 25 - Girls Don't Count.
o The Pop Group - Where There's A Will.
o Jah Wobble - Trade Winds.
o Blancmange - Game Above My Head.
o A Certain Ratio - 27 Forever.
o Joy Division - Novalty.
o Brian Eno & David Byrne - Come With Us.
o Martin Hannett - The First Aspect Of The Same Thing.
o Joy Division - Transmission.

That's really cool to have done a special mix for your Dad. I did one a couple yrs ago for my mother
when she was ill w/ cancer. & that time i gave up DJing...lost of inspiration. In any case, i went to visit my Mom @ home after her surgery. We chatted for a bit then she looked @ me in the eyes as she laid in bed... & said "you look so unhappy Manny, you need to get back in that music room & start playing w/ those records again. That's when you look your happiest." Seeing her laying there & so concerned about me in the state she was in...man, that brings tears to my eyes as we speak. Well, since my equipment was in my parents house...i went to the music room after not touching a record for so long (2yrs). I threw on the first track...read a verse from the Bible then hit record & came up w/ this crazy collage of music.
That's what got me back into it...so i dedicated that mix to my beautiful Mom.
Sorry for the long story...i just couldn't help to releasing that after so long.

God Bless,

M-TRAXXX.

moving story manny...
i once did a mix for my girlfriend when she had issues with her mother...it was not so serious offcourse, with a more ironic feel to it. just so she could see things from a lighter perspective.

Great story M-Traxxx - thanks for sharing.

My brother did a mix for my (ex-cop) Dad once, but realised after handing it over that one of tracks included references to smoking weed  Luckily, it was obscure enough that he hasn't noticed yet!

...or maybe he just hasn't listened to the mix properly

peace, roki

I did a mix for my mom about a year ago. She raised me on black gospel, so i put a lot of vocal, garage-ish tracks on it. she enjoyed it, at least she said she did.
