Peace.
You're right. However, I've just chalked it up to them having a lot of sound clips to do and they are trying to do it as quickly as possible.

LOL! I agree, that is very annoying.
Gotta say, satelliterecords.com has nice samples. Very clear, and each track fades out rather than just being disemboweled at the end, and they have a lot of stock to put online too!

That used to bug the hell outta me at first, but now you get used it. In fact, I expect that ripping of the needle on the virgin vinyl. I wonder who gets that copy of scratched vinyl?

I digress slightly, but have you been in Satellite records lately? That place looks like a bomb went off and all the records that were remotely new got magically replaced with 2-3 year old leftovers. What the hell is going on there?

i've heard more complaints than good things about satellite.com.
anyone here try deepfix(deepfixrecords.com)?
they have longer, clearer samples than most sites i've come across. and 2 day shipping.

ha ha ha. I've heard sound clips from DT where whoever was recording it had it on the wrong speed. Then silence for 5 seconds. |And then the song at the right speed.

how do you deal with import copies that come without the shrink rap. if 20 people went through one copy, doesn't it technically become a used copy? i have a real problem with paying full price for a brand new record with 25 different sets of fingerprints. i bought a new copy of an osunlade record that looked like it had been through 40 gigs & the dude still wanted to charge me full price.

True, but the only other option is to not let you listen to records on your own. Personally, I prefer to have the option. I buy stuff at Dancetracks all the time.

This is a tough one. Generally, your right. If there are unopened copies left, I insist on having a fresh unopened copy. Also, if its an import that I opened and played, then I make it a point to take that very copy.
But if its the last copy, then in the grand scheme of things, IMO, its only one record. Remember, WE, yes WE buy a lot of music, and one dusty record is not going to make or break us. Besides, if it is really that dirty, but that good, you can always take the record home and give it a "bath."
FWIW, the folks at Dancetracks try hard to please. This has been the case over the years, even when Joe Clausell, Jennifa, Kemati, et al. worked there.
Now that Phil is there, there is continuity. I really will not speak bad about them because they do right by me.

In other words, just kidding). But you can tell home much a record is warped by looking at the tension on the shrink wrap. Also, these things come in batches. So if the play copy is warped, there's a good chance the unopened copy is warped. Generally, what I do from here is go through the
entire batch and look for the record that is least warped.

I bought a record from DT via their mail order system and the damn thing came to me cracked in half. The rubber band they rapped around the record was too tight. That was the only mishap I've had from them. I bought a ton of records from them when Tyrone Francis worked there. He always hooked me up with the hot sh!t.

Peace most imports have no shrink rap. there's a store in my neck of the woods that removes the shrink rap from all domestic copies prior to shelving them. you have stock items that have been sitting in the bins for months that have been listened to over & over again but are not marked down.
also how often do the stores change the stylus. it takes only one play with a worn stylus to ruin a record. you can hear the grittiness after the second play with a perfectly good stylus. you can actually watch the grooves change shade while the dirty needle tracks. it's a no win situation.
i value my collection & treat it with respect. i wipe my records before each play & never touch the surface. i've stopped loaning records out because most jocks don't give a shit.
also why should i pay full price & then go home & clean my record. they should pay me to clean it.

When I was working at Dancetracks, how many clowns got cussed out for mishandling the records? plenty. it's my experience the main ones that want sealed copies of records are the primary ones that don't know how to handle a damn record. I'd make em buy the play copies, especially after they've played frisbee wit the damn thing.

my first experience with dt was a nightmare. i got a warped record a couple records i didn't even buy and they backordered at least half of my order (which i still never got). so i called them to try to correct things. after speaking to the cat on the phone i realized that this was a lost cause. since then everything has been ok. no major complaints here.
to me it beats waiting in line at gramaphone for a needle. i find more stuff that i want and i find some of their stuff to be cheaper than satellite
