View Full Version : More Music Less Talk?

I've seen comments from time to time on DHP that there aren't enough music posts and that there's too much other stuff (sex talk, politics, etc.). The comments sometimes imply that people have experiences on other music boards where music IS more the focus. (maybe that perception of what is implied is just wrong)
So I'm wondering...for those that visit other music-focused message boards, yahoo groups, listservs, or whatever, what is the traffic like on those boards? Are there more music (and not necessarily House) related posts? Is the daily volume low? High? Maybe the other sites are no different?

If this joint only spoke on music...it would be dead. There's more to life than house music and collecting music and spinning.
I would not be here as much.I was here when the board was mainly about id's and mixes.I did not post as much. The board grew fast, over a small amount of time.
I used to really have fun here, some idiots have ruined some of the livelyness here.

what Jamie just said.
my board has 5 forums about music, and one called "off topic" for everything else. the "all about house music" forum gets double the traffic that the off topic forum gets. there's roughly the same number of members as on here.

Everyone can always find something to complain about. The board moves in shifts. I know I get tired of seeing a page of track ids or one liner posts going "XXX song is hot" followed by 3 yeses. Balance, balance, balance.

Balance, balance, balance. true, but the question isn't really about people complaining. I'm just curious as to what people experience on other boards and if that experience is one that sets expectations for their interactions on this board.

Well there's this message board that i frequent a lot called the "Living room" and it's divided into topics like poetry, politics, literature, film, spirituality, music, relationship/love, parenting and art. The poetry section gets the most post and the music section is like second. Someone posted a topic in the music section which was fun to do called " songs in the key of your life" and you had to name 10 songs any genre, give the reason why and title the compliation. It was a fun thing to do mine was called " The Sowei Masquerade pt 1 (the initiations)". You pretty much would not find a post that doesn't relate to that particular category. Someone posted about how her coworker tells her about her and her boyfriends orgy sessions and what not lol. So if your looking for something along those lines it's in the love/relationship category. If you feel like talking about music it's in the music section your not going to find somebody talking about their sex adventures in the music section. So since this deep house and disco talk doesn't have sub categories in which i mentioned above and it gets the most post then people are going to post whatever comes to mind on this forum so i understand why it's like that.

Anytime I join a board, I just keep in mind that I never know what I'll get no matter what the board says it's goal. There are people behind the handles and well ... you never really know with people. Really there's an answer to your question in what I just wrote. ;)

more music / less talk sounds like a board full of uninteresting people with nothing to say if you ask me.
sounds like lots of 1 dimensional, non-personality having, non-committal type people ball washing their favorite DJ, promoting their party and discussing whether Tabu originally used a mixture of yellow and green dye on their labels or not.
thats ok, I'll pass.

I've been on relatively few other music related communities over the years, and the ones that seemed to focus just on music were pretty dull to me. I would say the topics were mainly New Releases, DJ Charts, Party Promotions, or "Which DJ Do You Like Best?" types of topics. That stuff gets old fast.
And I love House but damn...I can't imagine talking about it every single day, week after week.
