Music Box edits remake thingy Vol 1 Grant, welcome back! graemlins/cheering.gif That Paul Humphrey is real nice dating back to around 1971 or so..i forgot the label name but it's a red label with black lettering...
Crystal Grass -- Crystal World is an early disco classic that if memory serves me right, came around 74-75 (probably the latter year) on Phillips(??? i think ???)...
Change's Miracles ---oooooh shhhhhhhh! this was the last Luther Vandross-featured album before 1982's member overhaul....besides the hit "paradise", "hold tight" and "heaven of my life" are my favorite songs out of that album...i like this album even more than "the glow of love"...
Dexter Wansel -- nothing like his spacey-sounding productions:)"disco lights" is lovely....he later on went to paricipate in the productions of Tenita Jordan's "i don't wanna think about it" (1985/CBS) and Junior's "not tonight" (1985/86 "acquired taste" lp)
Toney Lee's "Reach Up" :D :D never tire of this classic....speaking of Toney, i'm on the hunt for his "love so deep" which may have been just an album cut...the song starts in a similar chord progression as "reach up" but it then takes off on its own.
"funky space reincarnation" i think is from his "here my dear" album of 1978...it was a commercial flop and Marvin put it out as part of his divorce settlement deal...
Hi-Gloss "cash" -- i need to find my copy of the hi-gloss album to see if that cut's in there....Ullanda Mc Cullough i believe participated in this group...their main hit was "you'll never know" but the sleeper for them is "i'm totally yours" replete with swirling strings...produced by Guilano Salerni...it was to a certain degree modeled after "change"...
Hot Cuisine is a UK-based outfit which hit paydirt with "who's been kissing you"?
Motion's "don't stop" came about 1983 and released on the ToJo label, a sub-label of Unidisc..ToJo was a Canadian-based label ran by D'Orazio & Tony Bentivegna (had to look the latter one up)who previously were responsible for nightlife unlimited's "disco choo choo" and suzi q's "get on up and do it again"...ToJo specialized in the hi-energy sound with groups such as Stephanie Wells, Blue Lazer, and Ladies Choice....the 1983 Motion album surfaced also on the Dutch Ram's Horn label...if you like the motion song, hot recrords out of miami has a 2-cd tojo records compilation that you may like...
Disco Delivery Sound -- Cafe was originally produced by Italy's Baby record and enjoyed a domestic release via then-new Emergency Records ...it was remixed by Johnathan Fearing...in NYC, this was a very popular record on Disco 92 KTU back in its heyday...KTU jock Paco Navarro loved this record in particular which he used as a catalyst to promote El Pico coffee ("cafe" is coffee in spanish)...
speaking of Emergency Records, for a while they used to say "filmworks" on the bottom address of their label....what movies did they make/distribute (if any)???? that remains a mystery to me...
i hit upon some nice r&b albums a couple of weeks ago for a dollar....mostly 78-79 stuff with the inclusion of the 1982 Wyndchymes album on RCA....WyndChymes were a Jackson, Mississipi-based group that apprently only recorded one album to my knowledge....chockful of solid, early 80s funk...kind of a cherished, sought-after album among 80s r&b and club heads....also i've been strung out lately by Bon Rock's "Give Me What I Want" which i got on mp3 (hard-to-find on cd or vinyl) from 1983 out on Reelin and Rockin (Tommy Boy) records....they were famous for doing a rap take on "searchin to find the one"..but this "give me what i want" is a real nice steady r&b song whose drum machine pattern is reminicent of Intrigue's "Fly Girl" smile.gif
enjoy your finds there Grant...they sound very good! catch you soon...
Kelvy - Toney Lee's Love So Deep is available, but hard to find on 12". It's on Radar, just like Reach Up, and is totally different than the LP version, but in a good way. If you like the LP version, you'll love the 12", especially the dub, which begins with one of the wildest percussive intro's I've heard on any record. I bought two originally, just to continually re-work that intro! A must have.....JMJ graemlins/thumbsup.gif

JMJ beat me to the Toney Lee question (there's also a 12" of Teaser). As for Ripple, I'll never forget hearing it for the first time, and how happy I was to find it in a used store quite a long time later.
Hi Gloss "I'm Totally Yours" is truly amazing. Same question: I only have it on the LP - was there a 12"?

Peace,
C- Boonga was a real sleeper. Got two of them through the record pool. I don't remember it ever being released commercially, but I could be wrong. Nice find....JMJ graemlins/thumbsup.gif

was "love so deep" a big Chicago record in its day? and what about Vaughan Mason and Butch Dayo's "Party On The Corner"; was that only an album cut??? that's another one i'm on the hunt for (particularly the Vaughan Mason/Butch Dayo album released around 82 or 83 on Salsoul)...thanks again!

Kelvy, I meant The Beat Goes On. As for Party on the Corner, that LP also has the superb (Do You Wanna) Feel My Love.
kelvy

that story on "the beat goes on" reminds me of my quest for starpoint's "i just wanna dance with you" that ended up years later at a neighborhood record store...the adrenalin rush upon cueing up this record:) and thank you for the "(do you wanna) feel my love" cut....did Vaughan Mason and Butch Dayo continue to collaborate between 83 to 87 (just before "break for love")???

Kelvy, I see that Rams Horn put out Party On The Corner as the B-side to You Can Do It. Party comes complete with a dub mix and I just found it listed on the Net: Salsoul SG 396. I only have the LP. Hmm, I don't know what became of Butch Dayo. My Mason stuff on Grove St from the late 80s doesn't mention him.
I got the Starpoint LP as a new release the summer it came out but it was only last year that I got the 12" of Dance With You.

Hey what's up Grant? it's been a minute bro.. I picked up some stuff last week, I can't remember much of it right now but I wanted to tell you that I found that Switchblade Sisters for a couple bucks in a used bin. It's a pretty nice cut. I think i've heard Doc Martin play it before or it's on one of his mixes...anyway thanks, and I hope all is well.
Peace,

If i can chime in on your question...I recall "Love So Deep" which was released commercially around 83 or 84 did not hit as big as Tony Lee's "Reach Up" which was a VERY popular tune for most dj(s) to include the HotMix 5! I myself purchased 2 orig. copies of Love So Deep as I purchased two copies of everything at that time!! What a difference a little time makes! ;)

Hi Kelvy
I have a 7" by Wyndchymes titled 'Baby You're The One' on Shakin' Records. No year on it, sounds like 79-80 period.
I don't know if anyone else has this one, good record, well worth tracking down.

Marv </font>thanks for the information Marv...in regards to Radar records, they were out only for a short time (1982 to about 1984) and then they disappeared...come to think of it, all the NYC independent greats (Prelude, Sam, Salsoul, West End) discontinued releasing stuff around 1984 with Prelude sticking it out until 1986 (Satin, Silk, and Lace's -- "Your Love" most likely their swan song)...

Excel...you mentioned "music" and for some unexplainable reason, i was reminicing over this 1995 song i think was called "the music" out on Scotch Plains-based "In-Sync" records that was produced by dj don juan who used to be on WRSU's "Friday Night House Groove"...it was a hyptnotic track with a minimal male voice reciting the following lyrics:
music
it makes me wanna dance
it makes me wanna sing
it's that muuusic music music music

I would rather have the 12" of "Why".

Hi Kelvy
The Wyndchymes track I mentioned is actually the b side. The a side is titled 'Ride' (more funky but not as good/soulful as 'Baby you're the one'). Both tracks written by John Alford.
This is all the info on this obscure light blue independent label -
Shakin' Records
Two-Knight Music BMI
Prod. by Joe Shamwell
Asso. Prod. Lee King, Julian Davis.
I bought the record back in the 80's from one of the dealers here in the UK. Possibly Soul Bowl or Gary (Black Knight).
