View Full Version : Donnie Darko flick!
Has anyone seen this movie?
Watched it last night with a friend and we were totally blown away.
The interaction between pop music and the actual plot is so overwhelming.
It's a shame that this movie see seemed to went rather unnoticed...

I liked the atmosphere of the movie a lot, not too sure about some plot parts tough, but overall a very nice movie IMO...
You are right about the plot, but how can you expect a movie about time travelling to be logical :D

This movie tripped me out but it was sort a good the rabbit was a trip when he made him do them things.his parents where odd graemlins/conf44.gif
I liked his mom and his dad a lot.
I think his mother's love to him could really be felt and also the amount of respect and acceptance his father brought to him.
The rabbit was really a trip. Especially in the cinema.

dark, tragic and powerful.
Donnie gave up his life for the gal he cared about deeply. he went to the grave with the memories of her, but she didn't know who he was.
sad. the ending song, Gary Jules' rendition of Tears Tor Fears' "Mad World", had me in tears.

I've been meaning to check out "...Columbine".
check out "Hero". this rivals Hidden Dragon.... if not, better. it is beautifully shot in China. the stories are deliciously entangled-- another love stry embedded in a kung fu/special efx extravaganza.
also, City of God. sick flick.
I nearly cried at the scene of the halloween party as Donnie opens the door and Gretchen stands before him and all of a sudden Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" creeps from the background into your ear and you just know that something tragic is gonna happen. Damn, the more I think about it, the more I love that movie.
Even Drew Barrymore and Patrick Swayze are cool.
Peace,
Gerd

potential cult movie status
*** bunny is a trip ***
also see bubble boy - "a cult hit"
coincidently the same actor - Jake Gyllenhaal
on the music tip - the soundtrack was done by Michael Andrews'. His frenetic career is as fascninating as the music he produces. Also known as Elgin Park, the guitarist from the famed Greyboy All-Stars soul-groove outfit and leader of the band Elgin Park (whose album can be found here at CD Baby), Mike came about film/TV composing quite by accident. Starting with Zero Effect, which was a Greyboy Allstars score he has gone on to compose music for the films "Orange County" and "Out Cold". TV shows include "Freaks & Geeks" and "Undeclared."
He collaborated on DJ Greyboy's Mastered the Art album and has played on countless albums including Brendan Benson's "One Mississippi" and Jude's latest.
The score to Donnie Darko is performed on muted piano, minimoog, vocoder, marimba and mellotron with occasional wordless vocals. The result is a simplistic yet hauntingly beautiful compliment to the picture, adding a whole other character and emotional dimension. We have included the end title which is a stunning cover of the Tears for Fears song "Mad World" featuring Gary Jules.
Other projects are in the works, which most likely will sound nothing like what has come before. This is what Mike does and does so well.

Was interested in seeing this but I keep making the mistake in trusting the choice to a friend who seemed to have lost his good film choice gland.
Watched Bas Moir (summat like that)? ? French film, this film is by far the most sexually explicit film available from main stream rental shops, bearing in mind that penetrative sex in film was illegal till last year in the UK, this shocks like a cattle prod, full sex scenes in a mainstream movie  .
Oh btw, it's a rubbish film all the same, french porno thelma and louise bullshit.
I will rent Donnie Darko and ask my freind to join DHP to get film tips, the daft twat !
Can you believ that "Donnie Darko" wasn't released in Germany. That damn fools play every silly and mindless blockbuster for weeks and weeks in their cinemas, but don't care for soemthing like that. And Raven, you're right with that "potential cult movie status".
@ Kai: "Hero" really rocks. Teh way colors are used as mood enhancers had me trippin.
Peace,
Gerd

The soundtrack is off the hook. i even got the score for it. I've noticed, anything that Drew B is involved with on the production side, one could expect good music featured. well, to me, it's good music.. music that a 30-something can relate with.
Can't front on the Wedding Singer.

Can't front on the Wedding Singer. Oh, that is right.
And I really loved the music in DD.
Echo & The Bunnymen, Joy Divison, Tears For Fears, hell, even Duran Duran rocked.
