I just got the program and having a tuff time getting started.
I have bean using Reason and Sonar for that past yr.

I am trying to get my USB Keystation to work with the program.

Also, I am looking to use the VST instruments and have the USB key station controll it as well.

Can anyone tell me how to get the controller to work and also How do you switch it to work other sounds midi or audio..

Like in Reason you have to make sure that little clock (on the left) is on that particular device in order for the controller to work that device. Does Acid work like that as well?

Help I drowning!!

I use Acid Pro 3, it's a memory hog so you may have to do some extra work to get where you want. I'm going to get Reason pretty soon.

You may want to purchase Cake Walk or any type of software sequencer to do all of your "midi" work.
This is how I intergrate the programs.

All of my instrumentation is created using Cake Walk. I save each file, bass, rhodes, piano, drums, as a "general midi file". Once I do this, I can use these midi files in Acid Pro, and cut an paste them where ever I want them to go. Be careful with the amounty of effects and instruments you use because they slow down the program.

I use what I call "template files" to free up memory. What I mean by using a template file is that, say for example I'm making a bassline. I create a bassline, after that I create extra "slaps", "mutes", and "trills" within the same file. I can then cut and paste those extra parts to where ever I want to in Acid Pro. This will cut down the amount of files created and will free up more memory within Acid Pro.

I would recommend that you have a shitload of memory and nothing running on your PC such as messengers and Office Suites.

Hope this helps.

Peace

I have Cake-Walk as well but, I never used it. If your saying Cake-walk can work With Acid then thats cool.

If you can tell me how to connect the USB key station to Cake-walk that would be extremely helpful!

In light of the topic at hand I need to find out how to get the Key Station to work with the different devices in Acid Pro 4.0a.

Help Help! I want to get started already! graemlins/mecry.gif

Within my copy of Cake Walk (version 8) there is a virtual keyboard program that allows me to use my computer keyboard as a piano. This also works within Acid Pro, but I feel more comfortable using it with Cake Walk.

Within the properties, depending how your Keyboard works software wise, you should have the option of what type of input you would like to use. Whether it be soft synth, an external device, your sound card, etc.

You may have to read up on the instruction on how to get the keyboard to work with each program.

Peace

Keith,
check your preferences for midi and if your keyboard is plugged in, it should show up in the window for you to select. Do you need to install a driver for the keyboard?

I went to Preferences. A dialog box came up to select midi in and midi out.
I saw my keystation listed in both sections so, I selected my keystation for both Midi in/out.
Was I supposed to select both in and out or just one?

Also, after doing that I still couldn't control none of the devices. Maybe I may have to reload the drivers for the keystation but, that wouldn't mak any sence cause the keystation showed up in the preference dialog box.. graemlins/conf44.gif
Still stuck on stupid!

acid pro 4.0d and above can control reason through rewire. no need to transfer files between the two. You can download the update from sonic foundry

Create a midi track in acid and select rewire devices. You should see Reason in the dialogue box - if not you may have to tell acid where reason is located first.
i don't use any controllers with acid, so can't help you there i'm afraid. if you need any other acid help though, drop me a PM

hope this helps

I found the manual. It is here. (http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/download/step2.asp?DID=403)

I got this from their help page:

I put a VSTi in my Vstplugins directory, but Acid does not find it when I refresh the list.
Question
I put a VSTi in my Vstplugins directory, but Acid does not find it when I refresh the list. I put a VSTi in my Vstplugins directory, but Acid does not find it when I refresh the list.
Answer
Are you sure that you have installed the instrument properly? While most VSTi's simply consist of a DLL or two, some require that you install them from the original installer, or they do not function at all. If you just installed your VSTi from it's installer, check to be sure the VSTi's DLL was properly copied into your Vstplugins directory. Some installers just copy them to the application's folder in Program Files, and you have to copy the DLL to your Vstplugins directory manually. Barring that, are you sure that the VSTi provides it's own UI? Steinberg's Cubase has a GUI library built into it that VSTi's can use for their interface. While this could possibly be emulated within Acid Pro 4.0, the amount of time it would take to emulate this library, combined with the small number of synths it would make available to our users did not make the effort worthwhile.

Is this waht you had trouble with? Give me a call,Keith. Peace.
