Saw this on BBC news online:

Black artists take over US top 10
The American Billboard singles chart top 10 is made up exclusively of tunes from black artists for the first time.

Nine of the ten are rappers, plus one track by R&B singer Beyonce and reggae star Sean Paul.

Mike Anthony, DJ and presenter from the BBC's black music station 1Xtra said he was not surprised it had happened.

"It was just a matter of time," he told BBC Radio Five Live.

Anthony attributed the rise of black music to the boom in the video music industry and the increase in outlets for black music fans.

"There are so many new avenues out there, we had drum'n'bass, then UK garage, which affected the youth - and it's the youth that lead the way. Now it has become really popular," he said.

US Billboard Top Ten singles
1. Baby Boy: Beyonce Featuring Sean Paul
2. Shake Ya Tailfeather: Nelly, P Diddy & Murphy Lee
3. Get Low: Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz Featuring Ying Yang Twins
4. Right Thurr: Chingy
5. Frontin': Pharrell Featuring Jay-Z
6. Damn!: YoungBloodZ Featuring Lil Jon
7. P.I.M.P.: 50 Cent
8. Into You: Fabolous Featuring Tamia/Ashanti
9. Stand Up: Ludacris Featuring Shawnna
10. Where Is The Love?: Black Eyed Peas

But he said the UK music scene should be doing more to promote black music.

"In America, and now here too, you can listen to R&B and rap at the switch of a dial - but we need to support black artists more here. In France, they have to play 40 - 50% of homegrown music on the airwaves."

The current UK top ten features three singles by black artists, Baby Boy by Big Brovaz, Superstar by Jamelia and Where is the Love? by the Black Eyed Peas.

Black Eyed Peas have scored the longest run at the top of the UK singles chart for five years with their hit.?

The track notched up five weeks at the top of the chart on Sunday, marking the biggest stretch at number one since Cher's seven week stint in 1998.

Rapper Dizzee Rascal's victory at this year's Mercury Music Prize should also help more underground black artists get recognised, industry experts said.

Rascal said in his acceptance speech: "Remember to support British talent - because it is there."

I believe the streets USED to influence the music, now the music programs the streets.

You have some good..Black Eyed Peas..the "Frontin" isnt to derogatory. The Fabolous isnt that bad.

But look @ Beyonce..the video...is she not sellin ass?
The rest of the records...if that is a good sign of what black artists are up to, I will not take back my comments, yet I am willing to hear opinions.
