View Full Version : There is NO more House in the CHICAGO GAY SCENE

This is where my House relationship started but now they are not even House anymore. I always associated House with the Gay scene and I hung DEEP for a long time (since 1983). Things here have changed dramatically. The thing now is everybody wants to look like a throwback or a thug and there is No music. The HIP-HOP that is being played is horrible. It was the music and the uninhibitedness of the scene that attracted me in the first place. Now that there is NO music anymore and I was NEVER gay in the first place ..there is no meeting point anymore. The friends that I have made are near an dear to me but the parties REALLY suck bad now, Even the Gay pride events now have No music, just radio hip - hop. I don't wanna hear shit going boy o boy o boy o boy o boy whatever that is. I'll just vibe with the children that I do know and leave it at that. But the days of being in the trenches (dancefloor) with the boys jacking to serious house are gone. I don't call Frankie's parties gay parties they're just parties so yes I plan on attending his parties because they are House but that's about it until they get over whatever it is that they are going through. From Rialto's, La Ray's, Trade & Flavor, Stop & Drink, The Generator,The Clubhouse, Bad Boys, 178, 411 club, PowerPlant, The Box, The Ritz, Waterworks, Christopher Street, Club Escape to NOTHING. I never thought that the sanctitude of House would leave the GAY scene..but it has at least in Chicago... I'ts been a nice 20yrs.
Bye Bye!!

Rich, I understand your disappointment with the gay party scene. That's one reason why I don't do any of the gay clubs anymore. Alot of them have bought into this whole hip-hop thang. I do like some hip-hop too but I'ma true house head! I hate it when some of my friends try to cut house cause now they all into hip-hop, but I remember when they lived for house and now they wanna front. They can have their hip-hop and hip-hop boyz, I'll be over here continuing to house til the day I D-I-E!

Rich:

I agree with your statments 100%. It's just the partygoers of today's generation (straight, gay, or in between) have been raised on hip hop. As much as we would not like to admit it, we have finally gotten OLDer, and the new breed has been brought up in the rap generation. Since they've been inundated with hip hop through the various media outlets, that's what they have grown to like, accept, enjoy, and want to hear. It's not just a gay thing, it's a whole generation.

If so I wanna be on it so at least I know that there is SOMEWHERE to go if I choose to hang. I hear ya on the generation thang. I am truely disgusted by the turn of events. I can't even get beatdown at GAY PRIDE??? That's horrible. Even TUT and OTIS MACK are into this bullshit, Whrere is Michael Ezebukwu when you need him????

rich, sounds like that only applies to the black scene, my impression is that there is a straight line (pun intended) from bistros to clubs now and it ain't rap

The two worlds were always pretty much seperate here. You had a little trickle over on both sides (race wise) but basically it was segregated.

Jeffery Pub is the same way - Hip Hop / mo Hip Hop. I played new & old House on Thursday's up until I left Chicago. I believe it is a "If you hear it long enough, you'll like it" kind of thing and the radio gives no other choice as of music.

Yeah those OLD children are still getting mugged when they step out of there. I live maybe 3 blocks from there and it was always TIRED anyways. That's like the Gay folks retirement club for Grey hair only. And I aint gonna be carrying a can of roach spray when I go out.

I miss the days of going to Foxy's,Cheeks,Bistro's,Trade and Flavor, the Clubhouse on Thurs.,I think it was Thurs, man I can't even remember all of the spots we used to hit.

We would hit those clubs to party so we could stay up on the new music. This was in the early 90's.I have had so many memories attached to partying at gay sets.Hell,we used to roll deep to those sets and turn em out.

in the 80's, thanks to i think the british punk influence, the british androgyny influence, free love, civil rights protests, vietnam, stagflation, and voodoo economics young kids weren't as afraid of being different or having their own custom identity.

i think this current youth generation is vulnerable and afraid. their fragile identity hinges upon fitting in and feeling safe.

hip-hop welcomes these youth with open arms. the offer them images of tough men and sexy women. what the artists rap or sing about doens't mean as much. hip-hop merchandises to these youth through fashion brandnames, alcoholic beverages, and car accessories. hip-hop is battles, record contracts, and potentially acting roles in movies.

all house can offer you is a good time. no frills.
