TROUBLESHOOTER
He's been developing his craft since the late 1980s, but TroubleShooter's experimental sound definitely looks to the future of electronic music. All sounds used including percussion and drum sounds are uniquely synthesized. Structured & unstructured drifting tempo, experimental rhythms, warm analogue pads & strings, deep fundamental bass & sub basslines, dark metallic crunchy ambience and chopped, cut up, stuttered, reversed and time stretched special effects. The first TroubleShooter vinyl EP record will be available in late July 2003 on the electronic record label "Modern Love". [Available exclusively from Boomkat.com].
JAMIE THOMSON
Founded by Jamie Thomson in order to combat his own boredom with the local clubbing climate, the Basic Level sessions started life in 1998 as intimate one-off parties thrown around Glasgow. Electro provided the soundtrack, with some unexpected twists thrown in for good measure. Five years later, the Basic Level marque has grown in stature to become one of the most respected purveyors of electronic music north of the border. The one-offs continue, but with the addition of appearances from the likes of DJs and acts including Keith Tenniswood, Redshift and Seventh City's Shawn Rudiman. Jamie also DJs at Basic Level's sister project, Nurture at the reknowned Club 69 in Paisley, playing alongside the likes of Ian O'Brien, The Dexorcist, Dirty Hospital, and Haywire's Rick Hopkins.
ROBOT ARM
Robot Arm are another product of the fertile breeding ground that is Manchester's current electronic music scene. Initiated by queen of the scene Rachel Elwell [Bynatone], the Robot Arm quartet are two parts Bynatone [feted boy-girl duo], one part DoubleJohnGrey [of Manc electro-art label, Valentine Records], and one part Avant Jon [MIB DJ, and co-founder of lo-fi CDR label, Audiomonster]. Described as looking like "two librarians, a German pornstar, and a young Iggy Pop", Robot Arm's sound fuses the moog madness of Add N To X with the deadpan, one-liner lyricism of the Fat Truckers.
