Okay, here's what's rocking my world lately...
1/ Frankie Knuckles "Keep On Movin'" (Definity, US)
2/ Ron Mitchell "Hard Life" (Underground Resistance, US)
3/ Octave One "Black Water" (Octave One, UK)
4/ Jay J "Smoke It Up" (Afterhours, US)
5/ Robyn "Good Thang" MAW Rmx (Promo, UK)
Anybody else big on Jay J's aggressive, dark, percussive sound as heard on his remix of Romanthony's "Trust", on his "Remember NY/Chicago" record and now on this "Smoke It Up" cut? This stuff is seriously beating and can crank up the energy in a spot. Nice antidote to too many laid-back records coming out in a while.
I'm also after this Diana Ross vs. ATFC "Bad Hangover" UK white label that jacks together the obvious source material and is really good IMO (generally I don't like these 'combining' records). I think I have a line on getting this.
Other stuff... Nick Holder "416 EP", Hipbone Sessions "The What", Copa America "Fire In Your Hands", Innervision f. Melonie Daniels "Don't Ever Give Up" on Ricanstruction...
I have a gig (3hrs+ !)coming up in my neck of the woods (Halifax, Canada) playing a film festival party on Sept. 15 and this stuff will all be on the menu...
