Lyot - it's on their "Say My Friend" LP on Capitol. I haven't seen it around much, it's one of the great Mizell Brothers productions. I don't know if there's a twelve.

Hello Lyot,

It is quite a rare record I picked mine up at a record fair for like £25 or so . Man I know about that Piece of mind track , that is one of my favourite songs lyrics always help me on my way .
Played that out as last record as well .
Hope you track it down ! .

Peace and hope all is good with you
Alex . ;)

The other big track off the album was 'Reason to Survive' which I believe also came out on a 7". Last time I saw the album for sale was at Jazzman Records, Camden Market. The album does crop up, I think it goes for around £25/£30 here in the UK. You just can't beat that Mizell brothers sound.

i bought the comp back in 94 specifically for the "Peace of Mind" track -- have never been able to find the LP it came off of....the search continues though...

peace,

Hi Lyot

Just had a quick scout on the net but no copies of the album are around at the moment but I found out that three of the tracks have been re-issued on cd comps 'Truth is Marching On', 'Reason to Survive' & 'Peace of Mind' (both the last two tracks also came out on a 7").
I will keep an eye out for it at forthcoming record fairs.
If you really need it asap in any format I could put it on to cd for you, just let me know.
Another Rance Allen album which is also worth purchasing is 'I Feel Like Going On' (stax 1980), equally as good as 'Say My Friend' & the album 'A Soulful Experience' (truth 1975) has the track 'Ain't No Need Of Crying' which is pretty cool as well.
If this is your kind of groove I'll be playing on this tip with House, Disco, modern/northern soul on www.soul24-7.com (http://www.soul24-7.com) every Thursday 10:00 - 13:00 UK time (not 100% confirmed but hopefully the first show should start then next week).

all the best

Mark

hey Mark,

thanks for looking out !!! ..I'm only after the record itself.. I don' even have a decent cd player myself.. graemlins/conf44.gif

These compilations you are talking about, are they only available on Cd ? Or also on vinyl ? If the latter is the case, could you please hook me up with the titles of these compilations ? So I can also have a look here in Brussels ?

I see you are connected with the Soul24-7 crew..Do you know this guy in Brussels that is sometimes giving Northern Soul parties ? I think he's also linked to Soul24-7, but i'm not entirely sure about it..

About your show , is it possible to listen to it via Windows Media Player or is it only Real Player that works ? If Media Player is an option, i can listen to it at my job..

Hi Lyot

I'm the same, its gotta be vinyl.
I've just come across this site, it looks like a copy of the original album is for sale here -
homepage2.nifty.com/osmium-r/mo_list/mfs/mfs_09.html

You can also listen to the best tracks on the album on -
www.stormpages.com/skyhigh/discography.htm (http://www.stormpages.com/skyhigh/discography.htm)

All tracks are available on various comp cd's, Sky High The Mizell Bros collection is cd only, but the Capitol Rare comps I think were on vinyl.

I'm not that well connected with the soul24-7 crowd, I know a few of the presenters though, none from Brussels I'm afraid.
I covered a show for the first time on Tuesday night & I got a call this morning about making it a regular thing, it will be confirmed next week & Windows Media Player works on there.

Let us know how you get on with that site (Japan based I think).

all the best

hey Mark,

thanks again for the hookup ! ..I've sent an email to the record shop in Japan..If i'm not mistaken, they charge about 37 euro's for that record..(shipping not included) ..That's a lot of money, but in this case i'm willing to pay ...that 'peace of mind' is such a cut !

I will defenitly try to listen next tuesday..What exactly are you playing ? MIxing it all up or do you stick to one format ?

take care and thanks mate !

Good luck with the purchase Lyot, I think 37 euros is a good price, its a top album hope you get it.
I collect house/soul/jazz/funk/soundtracks etc etc so its a tough one to programme.
Its a 3 hour show, so I think I'll play some disco/boogie 1st hour, 2nd hour house mix (unreleased bits thrown in). Last hour 6ts & 7ts soul....possibly.
I'll just have to see how it go's.

all the best

Mark

Just been speaking to one of the dealers I get stuff from a lot, he's got a load of Mizells stuff in (hes just sorted me out with Johnny Hammond Gears, Rance ALlen as well), so give him a try if you are still after this stuff. He's asked me to pass his email on backatcha@ntlworld.com

thanks
