once and a while my friends and i get our gear together and have jam sessions. keyboards, computers, synths, live drummer, live guitarist, a bassist, and sometimes my wife will join in on the mic to provide some vocals or play the bongos. we decide what key to play in and just jam on top of a groove that anyone of us has made at home-one groove could be about 40 minutes(depending on the amount of graemlins/kos.gif we do). record everything into CoolEdit and chop it up at home.
does anyone else do this?

I jam, but not like you do. Over here in Holland there arent many musicians who are trained in Jazz. So what i do is,,, make drum track,,, ad a bassline,, and jam on top of that with my piano, or with a synth. That part is always the most fun of the music making proces and it can be a very good learning experience.
Maybe one day the internet connections will be so fast, whe can hook up and jam with each other one day,,, yeah that would be great :D

My recording/studio sessions are jam sessions. Most of the time in between tunes that I wrote a person would start a groove and then from there we are into a zone playing to that rhythm. (We meaning a vocalist, drummer, percussionist, keyboardist, bassist and etc..) I will have some of that footage on my up coming album Shannon Harris presents "The New World Reveal-A-Solution"...
Some of the jam sessions I didn't record or got snippets of them after realizing "hey this should be on tape"... So I extracted some footage off of video and layered it with the parts I recorded the audio to and it's pretty cool..
