View Full Version : Cubase SXc& Reason rewire issues?

Ok Now that I have got the hang of Cubase SX. My new Motu 828 Audio interface (Fire wire), and all of my VST plug-ins work fine. Ok great!

I have explored the flexibility of the rewire function and have connected my Reason files to Cubase SX. The rewire works, No problem with the connection.

Here is the issue. Once I rewire them and play the track I get this clitch that sounds friggin terrible. I mean the sound drops in and out like it’s buffering or something like that. I can't figure it out for the life of me. I have yet to rewire another Reason track to see if it’s just that file. That will be my next stab in the dark.

I am running this operation on my PC that has these specs:

P4 2.8Ghz processor (800Mhz front Side bus)
512M Ram PC2700 333MHz
120G Hard Drive 7200RPM

What could be my problem?

Anyone.. help help! hail.gif

No seriously do you know what my problem could be.

Talking to a co-working of mine, we think it might be that I need a litle more RAM. Maybe bumping it up to 1.5Gig Ram?

You think this may fix my issue..

graemlins/conf44.gif We're problem children..Hahhahahaha!

Well from what Brain said I believe that is best to make the software the master and slave the others.

I did read this in my Motu manul but and even in there it said something use the software as the master.

I can't remember fully but what Brian wrote did have lound bells ringing in my head!

I hope you have the manual and you are able to understand what you need to do to correct your problem.

So far Dennis F and Brain have been on point for all my Problems. Thanks guys..

Good luck
Good luck. DJ

hey keith as i don't have the motu interface i can't be sure, but i don't have the problem with rewire and cubase sx you are talking about with my system. are you sure you have go into the settings in cubase and told it to use the ASIO driver for the motu?

a work around until you figure it out is to solo each part in Reason and then export as an audio file, so that you have an audio file for each part. you can then load each audio file on its own audio track in Cubase .. you can then mix them as though they were parts you recorded in a session with Cubase. a lot of people actually prefer this method over rewire anyway it seems (i'm not exactly sure why .. perhaps less cpu intensive).

i'd suggest asking about your rewire problem on the forum on the Propellerheads software site at www.propellerheads.se (http://www.propellerheads.se)

I have to remember your gift come Christmas time! :D

Before I conducted your advice I went out and bought more ram and here are my current specs.

P4 2.8Ghz processor (800Mhz front Side bus)
1Gig Ram PC2700 333MHz
120G Hard Drive 7200RPM

Should I be experiencing this problem with plug-ins or rewire files?

Just to get you more insight to my issue.
The file I was rewiring had two wave loops and I am not sure how long they are but I was only using about 8 bars of the samples, which the loop is definitely longer then what I'm using. I probably should shorting up the sample because maybe this could be the problem as well.

Anyways after I put the Ram in it cleaned it up but Not ALL of the glitch. The glitch sound was noticeably less.
BTW. This was the only file that has this problem. All my other Reason files don’t have this problem and they too have wave sample in them. I may (like you said) should work with it till I figure out this problem.

After reading your response I then dumped the audio samples into Cubase and from there, the track was on point with no glitches in the project. (Right on Brian) graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Although I want to be flexible in all aspects that my project may go I know now that I want to max my PC out to 4Gigs of Ram. Hopefully that will assure that I have no glitches in the future. You think?

Again thanks Brian!

All of that clicking and sounds dropping could be your latency settings.

I never deleted the rewire reason file so, if I can find the latency settings in Cubase I will load the file up and play with the settings to see if that is the problem as well.

Again with the added Ram I did notice the proformance difference with my system. Meaning files and programs react much faster.

Now with all these issues I am having with Cubase do you really think I'm ready for a Logic walk though... graemlins/stupid.gif

Holla back!

Hi Keith,

i agree with CG63.

if i remeber correctly you will find them via

Devices » Device Setup » VST Multitrack

there should be an ASIO driver setting window.

btw perhaps you could raise the buffersize on your audiocard.

ciao,
mocilo74 Hey Mocilo74

I agree with Charles as well based on my experience with the same situation using Reason solely.

Shortening up the story (stay with me)
I had a track that I did in Reason (solely) and I had over 16 wave samples in the track.
I experienced the same glitch sound and I was able to adjust the latency buffer in the preference menu and my problem was solved.

I see I need to find the latency setting in Cubase and hopefully this will eliminate the glitch. Although I applied the advice that Brian gave which the track sounds %100 better I still want to figure out and to try to fix this problem as to learn more about moving around Cubase. There probably will be someone down the road that will have this same problem and then I’ll be able to help someone else like all of you helped me.
;)
Also, I have the Motu 828 audio interface hooked up to the PC. I remember adjusting the Cubase setting to read ASIO driver for the Motu and ever since then I was able to hear my Cubase.( Didn't get a sound card with the PC because I knew I was going to get the Motu.)

Dealing with the Motu as the sound card are you saying I should try to adjust the buffer size for the Motu to solve the above problem/ issue?

I am not an expert but I think my problem is with the program setting in Cubase and not the Motu.
But what do I know? I’m here asking question. LOL

Thanks Mocilo74

i'm not an expert too but i know "somewhere" i could adjust my buffer settings. but i have an audigy 2 zs and not a motu. my friend got one but this won't help you in the moment ;) . unfortunately i'm not at home (and at home i have no internet) but one thing came in to my mind. i remember in the cubase folder somewhere is an ASIO folder. inside this there should be something called asio setup or multimedia setup or config. i think there are two or three *.exe. one is the usual setup where you test your compatibility (setting vs card) and in another one is (i guess) a panel where you can set the latency.

but only use a low latency while recording because it will take a lot of cpu power you might need elsewhere (plug ins etc). after recording you should raise it. (or vice versa)

when i´m at home i will take a closer look at it, perhaps i can find it.

perhaps this link might help you:

( i know this one deals not with the motu but perhaps there are some hints on which you can gon on)
