'In this great age of computers and space flight we are finally beginning to gain an understanding of ourselves and the universe that goes beyond introspection, philosophising and word of mouth. In our modern world we have discovered ways to scientifically test what goes on inside the minds of others and to mathematically calculate what goes on in reactions between particles smaller than we could ever interact with.

In this great age of computers and space flight, some of us are beginning to realize that all this knowledge and the power that comes with it, is worth nothing if you don't know what to do with it. And it is with this realization that we discover we are alive in a universe gone mad. Each one of us is a part of a species that on the whole seems willing to condemn itself to a virtual death.

Many of us let others take away our freedom to think for ourselves - gratefully accepting the mass produced brainwashing that is given to us in the form in television, fashions, stereotyping and newspapers. Others have our freedom taken forcibly away from us for supposed crimes against society - even when many of our crimes have no victims.

And is this willingness to give up our freedom of thought not our greatest crime possible? For by doing so we condemn ourselves to a life where we do not know how to stimulate our own senses. We sign a contract with our shadows to forever protect ourselves from mockery by never stepping out of the line and into the limelight.

From the moment of our births into this western society we are shaped and melded into our place in the machine. During the great wars we were taught that it was an honour to die for king and country. Today we all enter school as soon as we learn to interact with other people. Our minds are all fed the same one-size-fits-all education, we are conditioned to believe it is right to work from 9 am till 5 pm five days a week, and be content with whatever pitiful existence comes in-between.

We are encouraged to compete with our brothers and fight over our sisters. We are not taught to think for ourselves, but instead to accept and believe everything we are told. We are then filled with lies and pitiful tasters of real knowledge - little scrapings from the plate of knowledge that does not actually accomplish the dangerous act of inspiring our minds but instead dullens and bores them.

We are taught that Physics is memorizing formulas, that mathematics is performing repetitive tasks with numbers. English is being slowly and monotonously force fed literature in a way that completely removes the original beauty of the words. Wearing the correct uniform and waking in the morning for your teenage years becomes the task that defines how easy it is to support yourself in future life.

The phrase "Free thinkers are dangerous" has begun to make its meaning clear to people throughout our society. The close minded, living in their stunningly barren mental prisons tell it to themselves, defending their cowardly ego from having to explain why it cannot think for itself. They themselves grow to believe it, not for any personal purpose, but because those in control of the masses and monopolies - those to whom the freethinkers are dangerous, have found it useful for them to believe it. But for the free thinkers themselves it has far greater meaning, before they normally even realize the value of their mind as a weapon, it had to first be turned against themselves.

The hordes of school children taught that conformity is 'cool' and the uninspirational teachers to whom their pay slip and result sheet is more important than inspiring the minds of their students with the love of their life, world and imaginations. The parents that then see the low graded result sheets of their children and punish them, blaming it on their children for being unable to handle the tedium and pointlessness of our debased education system. Because of these factors and many more, free thinkers are forced to go through a battle in their minds to reach their freedom. Pitting their ego against their imagination they are forced to go against the grain of society.

Further manipulation of the masses and activation of stereotypes has resulted in many of these freethinkers then being associated with the criminal underground. They become seen as criminals, terrorists and revolutionaries for having the courage to stand up against the laws of our society which have no inherent benefit for the human race or individual in general. Others are simply seen as crazy and persecuted as such, in much the same way that Galileo was for saying the earth revolved around the sun. But amongst them a brotherly respect has grown, and along with that a tolerance to the stupidities of the masses, they have formed an alternative culture existing alongside the mainstream.

These cultures have developed inside themselves different sets of morals and values, things that each hold as important. The mainstream culture seems to hold its prejudices, laws, conformity and competition as a vital part, while the alternative culture holds uniqueness and individual choice as a necessity. By holding competition as a vital part of their culture, the mainstream has developed the idea that you are either a winner or a loser, rich or poor. The poor are considered low life’s - failures - their happiness is judged as equivalent to the size of their wallet. The alternative culture on the other hand, in learning from the wisdom of the east, tends to consider life as more of a joke, with social and financial success as far separated from happiness as chalk from cheese.

These two cultures have existed side by side throughout human evolution, representing themselves in the archetypes of good and evil, god and the devil. Though the simple fact that it takes no courage or original thinking, but merely laziness and a hunger for power "traditional" culture has always had the upper hand through simply having larger numbers, hence enabling itself to define what is "good" and "bad". The exile, the free thinker, was always portrayed as the devil character - the wild card that no one knew how to control. Without the external locus of control persistent throughout mainstream culture, they are forced to judge what is right and wrong for themselves, and in the process of doing so, often contradicting whatever is currently judged as good or bad by the mainstream.

The alternative culture has largely deified the individual and hir ability to produce works of great value aesthetically and intellectually, eventually coming together for the greater good of society as a whole. The mainstream culture present in the western world today has crippled the individual; it tells them that on their own they are worthless, that only as a whole do they have value and purpose. Today we are brought up believing that an individual is not so much a person, but an off-duty job placement.

The greatest enemy of the individual in dominant society has become himself, he is the one he always watches out for, guards the actions of and protects against attack. In his fear of letting people discover that he is an individual and risking attention he has destroyed his individuality. He has grown to hate those who cannot both because they have the courage to be themselves and because they draw attention to hir deficiency. The memetic theory of evolution provides a possible explanation for this, in that maybe some people evolved to be better imitators, while others developed to become better meme-creators.

And as a cure for this divided society and insane universe I propose a new way of seeing life. I believe that it is the nature of humans to enter this world in a state of dire insanity, and during our childhood this madness is not brought directly to any form of sanity, but instead to a mere state which is considered normal in comparison to other similar beings. I believe it is then the responsibilities of each and every human being to take responsibility for their own unconsciousness, and use it to find their true selves - and in doing so, become sane.

The benefit of this is many fold, on one hand it leads to individual happiness - not the mere state of contentment which the masses are used to, but actual inspired happiness and love of the self and the universe it exists in. The other benefits are to our society and planet, a society of happy inspired individuals will produce works of far greater worth than a society of self-imprisoned drones. The dream of a social utopia is not one that will be created through politics or science, but through understand and control of the self.

How this can be obtained has been studied by humans since the dawn of humanity. Shamans, Philosophers, Psychologists, and Psychonauts - all have studied these kinds of fields, and all have come up with different answers. Many of them are but individual pieces of the total jigsaw puzzle, some simply do not fit into the same board. This is because every individual is different; every one of us has faced different circumstances and as such walked down different paths of life. Some of these paths are very similar, but as the failings of the great religions have proven, it is not possible for anyone else to tell you how to live your life.

But help can be given, advice can be offered. Knowledge is the main key to unlock the doors of the unconscious. Many different techniques have been developed over the millennia, and as our scientific knowledge increases we are finding out how these techniques work and refined them, even discovered ways to electronically synthesis them. Dream analysis, Meditation, Psychedelics - these are but some of the more traditional ways to do it. The League of Sanity intends to bring all these techniques together, to compile all the information on these areas into easily readable and approachable format - to make the search for sanity easier for the common man and to hopefully bring sanity to this crazy universe of ours.'

I keep re-reading this. Very deep and true. Did you write this David?

The following, is only one bit that stuck out for me.
