Soul Nation does seem to be a bit London centric. Trev does need to open his ears a bit wider, maybe he will in later episodes, maybe wind down the (banned!lol) darkened windows of his X5....

Drum and Bass is great, I guess i went to the right parties, if you listen to it loud enough you'll be fine even if it does sound like 'fog horns being played through giant metal tubes' to quote the daily mail (snotty UK paper).

Some of Uk garage was good to, Rosie gaines - closer than close...very big when I lived in south London(94/95)...Todd edwards, Grant nelson. I got a reissue of Gruv'n disco affairs - you dont want to lose it....it reminds me of my time on the no.36 bus in S. London a lot! I don't relate to so solid crew, I can't dance to it...it's all catch phrases and no solid grooves to get down to.

Anyway....
I agree.

I didn't watch last nights programme, a) I knew that it covered music that I'm not down with b) I was disappointed with the first two programmes c) I was getting bored with seeing Trevor N's X5 BMW at every oportunity !

I hope the programme covered Bobbi & Steve's Garage City nights when it started at Joe's in Duke St back in 90-91, I know there was High on Hope & others in the Capitol & no doubt around the country but they were the first to play proper garage/house from the first to the last record all night.
Also, Leo's night SPEED at the Milk Bar (also know as Ivories/Mars) with Bukem & Fabio, although not strictly soul in the true sense of the word but it was ground breaking as far as drum & bass is concerned.
I remember Paradise Club (now N1 Angel shopping centre) & The Blue Note/Bass Clef (Hoxton Square) but IMO I had some good nights at these venues but they did not bring anything new that would be worth mentioning in a documentry.

I read this too quickly first time I felt D&B, felt the half beat, mc-less mostly. but, Conrad is one of the best ones to pull it off, doesn't over do it IMHO.

It kinda has two tempos and you can choose which you felt, I could feel the second beat and dance to it IMHO. Jungle dances seemed like a bunch of people running on the spot..?, well that's the way it looked to me

bukem is in brum this weekend, and he turns up

Then you'll remember them playing the Warehouse in Leeds, circa 1989 and having all their equipment stolen by the support band for that night, the Bridewell Taxis - now that's what you call punk </font>
yes, that still happens today....but I belive you guys would call it "ghetto bling-bling" </font>
Ghetto Bling-Bling = mainstream, something totally different, if going to Ayia Napa is Ghetto Bling-Bling, then it's also a fallacy ;)

What I saw and still do, is ignorance of something you know nothing about & don't want to know about. The images you put up are now so watered down they don't represent UKG.

In this day of the internet, I just think it's a little sad that you don't do a little searching & have a listen to the "real" UK house music. Instead you're stuck in the past, clinging to your great American dream.
Look, you got uppity cause I mentioned Moschino, I can't remember any girl but I can remember that whole 20 min section was teh dog gis of dance music , end of !

Know your letting the truth slip, your friend was on the show dressed in Moschino I take it ? , I couldn't believe that this had nothing to do with your relentless torrent innit.

knawmean, you keep repeating I know naffin cus I don't live in London, , you don't even know me yet you want me to respect your shit, when you know nothing of mine, selfish and self centered view of the world, your not my favourite waste of time, your not that into anything of any quality, most of what you have said is rubbish and lacking in quality

As I said if you sell your ass to Woolworths for the mindless kids in fake Valentino with gold and attitude, don't complain when people tell youthat you suck.

You should read again, and stop trying to be witty or getting the last word in. American dream, tssskk, how's about a British one not bastardising the "Paradise Garage"

If it's so UK why the **** wasn't called Baggleys, then it could have have speed baggleys or call it Twice as nice if it so special a place for the music that changed history - see why I think it's cack, rather that speed garage. Using UKG - is that cause your ashamed of UK Garage , what does the garage mean, just go away.

Explain why UK GARAGE WASN'T NAMED AFTER A UK CLUB ?

IF IT'S UK WHY DO THEY PUT AN AMERICAN CLUB NAME, ****ING WHAT KINDA SENSE IS THAT.

UK - GARAGE

COULD HAVE CALLED IT UK MINISTRY PERHAPS, DUNNO.

ALL THIS UK GA RARGE UK SMOOTH URBAN STREET, PROPER BO - TRYING TO COPY US HIP HOP ATTITUDE WITH A US CLUB NAME. TSSSK !

IF IT WAS THE WICKED WICKED WICKEDEST UK WICKEDNESS INIT NUFF SAID WICKED, HERE ME !

Nothing (Naffin) changed due to speed garage, jungle funky house or speed garage and you treat you music like your jeans , always leaving the tag on the outside INIT, probably change music more often than the jeans.
and that's the truth and size if blah blah cor blimey it all gone pear shaped knees up mother brown, ayia napa ayia nap bo rewind come again for the massive massive, poetry !

NB: - Punk/New Wave came from a time of the highest employment in the country.

NB: UK ga rarge came from the tiem of lowest employemnt

I found London to be quite a desperate town really. What with all those immigrants coming over and holding down three jobs, working the tube, Burger King *(the jobs no true Londoner would do because they're technically afraid to be viewed as working class) and then maybe a cleaning job before they go back to their slum in Wood Green, Bermondsey, Peckham for three hours sleep...

The place really hasn't changed since Dickens wrote about the terrible inequities that are created in this stinking mess..

The sad thing is that there are people, probably like yourself that believe they are something special because they live in London, when really it's just a town like any other...

This thread is nothing more than the UK equivalent of the Chicago/New York argument, which is very interesting.

In short, Bran, I'm glad that the North of England was able to give you the opportunity to DJ tomorrow evening. You could possibly use that as your pre-set mantra. :D

Make sure you play some Ten City or any of that old Chicago shit for the over-thirty Househeads of in no particular order Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, Stoke, Liverpool and Leeds, because if it wasn't for these 'northern monkies' you'd be playing some noodley obscure jazz rubbish to a bunch of boring white people that can't dance...

Also, if you ever get a gig in Tokyo, let me know, I'll send you back with a bonzai that you can plant outside of the Watford Gap for my brothers and sisters in the North of England...

Getting the thread back on topic

music not geography :

Jungle

Inner city life : goldie ( lush, raw music )
Mutant Jazz ( trace mix ) : t-power ( stunning )
Music : Mystic moods ( samples roger s )
Omni Trio : who are you ( reminds me of orbial )

UK Garage

Whitney Houston - its not right ( white label garage mix ) beautiful

Nu Spirit helsinki - trying ( caporia twins )again stunning

MJ Cole : Sincere ( obvious but hey...21st century soul music )

To be honest both of the above are are fairly new styles of music and not really my cup of tea but every now and then... "damm" just gotta get that track....

Good music is good music...reagardless of where, by who...etc...

EARS WIDE OPEN.......EYES WIDE SHUT :D

"Sweet like chocolate, you're sweet like chocolate.
Finding my way in the dark, ain't so hard when you're close to my heart,
You are there when I'm feeling alone, all I need is for you to come home.

You're sweet like chocolate boy, sweet like chocolate,
You bring me so much joy, you're sweet like chocolate, oh.

Trust is the lock, is the key, there's no doubt that your love's all for me,
You are sweet on the tip of my tongue, you are warm like the rays of the sun.

Chorus

You're sweet like... da da da...
Knowing you're there every day, makes me high in my own special way,
I am caught when I'm faced with your love, holding you is a gift from above.

Chorus

You're sweet like... da da da...

Sweet like chocolate, sweet like chocolate, oh..."

I also got this from Grant Nelson's site...

One of the most frequently asked questions is, due to his Bump & Flex productions, does Grant play UK Garage?

The answer is a defintate No.

He has employed a bumpy US House policy for his DJ sets since 1992. Apart from a short while during 1999 when he played a number of back to back, 4 turntable sets alongside Norris 'Da Boss' Windross under their N'n'G guise, he has never played UK Garage in his DJ sets.

A disclaimer !!!

Good stuff, his site is great, http://www.grantnelson.co.uk

Getting the thread back on topic

So that would be Rob...

1. My dislike for a couple of things
a. UK Garage on the whole, although I do like MJC (who hasn't been on the show yet)
b. Jungle on the whole, although I do like the good D&B. Good music is good music.

2. T N not concentrating of Loose Ends enough, he covered some fantastic people in the first two, the number declined in the third IMHO (sorry for having one)

.... Coolnotes ?, and where was David Joseph ? etc etc.

there was a few negative points the programme actually made itself, perhaps some people need to check them out again instead of nit picking with me.

Is anyone still reading this shite? Oh, apart from me? What a ridiculous thread. The chocolate pictures were probably the lowest point.

Bran - remember to be thankful to the north of England for giving you house music. Some may believe it was born in America, but I agree that it was probably more likely to be Bradford.

You've not read it properly, Al. It's Wath-on-Dearne not Bradford.
