when you're referring to the Milk Bar are you talking about House, specifically Pure/Pure Sexy nights?

    Martin

you seem to have a serious chip on your shoulder. Have you ever been to London, and if so what is your problem with it?

Martin, what makes you so bitter about the whole d'n'b - uk garage scene?

I did just glance at this bit. Martin, you know nothing about me, where I'm from, where I've been, what I do and don't know, what I've done, the people I've met. Likewise from me to you. I simply posted up my thoughts on your comments.

Take your head out of your arse for one moment and 'you' think again before making assumptions.

If you had read first time you, instead of skipping through you would have realised I had already said the same thing in regards to you.

re re wind and the crowd goes , yawn
</font>[/QUOTE]You are incorrect, you initally made remarks making yourself look like you had a blindfold on. I simply commented on 'your' remarks, not 'you'. I'm sure a person with such command of the English language can understand that.

What we are mostly wondering is why you are so biter about some things.

    Martin think before you rant.
Jungle and ukg are as much a part of British soul music as house and northern soul. what are you going to do, make a tv programme about soul and ignore two of the most significant and exciting soul-based music scenes of the last decade?

btw Space Rider was a slow UKG tune two years before Spinna watered it down into a dull deep house track.

It's a real shame seeing d 'n' b dissed like this. It's one of the few original, interesting musical movements of the past decade.

SPEED at the Milk Bar (also know as Ivories/Mars) with Bukem & Fabio is what I'm refering to. Before this I would mos def have stumbled in there to some kind of house night. Those days were pretty jaded and a long time ago. I also gotta be careful what I say as some people might make assumptions about what music i was into at what time and we know we can't have that type of thing going wrong, it can riun ones rep you know.

You in later? Might pop by for one.

There is only one person doing that right here and without making any assumptions I'd say he lacks a certain amount of experiences in this area hence the comments. I personally try not to rant on about things I know little about. Either that or he just hates drum and bass, either way it should be recognised as " one of the few original, interesting musical movements of the past decade"

should be knocking off some time between 6 and 8

Only ever went to Milk Bar when it first opened - I think I hit a jaded period some time after that and left the country for a year just about when DnB blew up

jungle = ragga music for drug heads.

C'mon this was our punk rock. Music that was fresh & rebellious. To call it "ragga music for drug heads." is ignorant.

"Oh my god they are talking about UK Garage and Moschino shirts and leaving the tag on clothes so people know the make, ****ING TWATS ! cheesey rubbish nonsense that is for Trevor Nelson sellout ass !"

This was at Twice as Nice, which originally started as a house night. I know it looks as corny as hell but I actually used to do the same thing. It was about being a broke youth wanting to look like I was making money. I'm sure you must have had a "fashion" when you were young.

"UK - UK - UK - our own sound - **** off Trevor UK up your ass."

Not sure what this is directed at but the uk does have it's own sound, which was born from jungle. It went on to produce uk garage and is now very much evident in broken beat. I don't think that's anything to be ashamed of. Do you?

I personally enjoyed the programme for what it was. People who were pasionate about music, that touched THEIR soul.

Oh and this is my first post. Hi.
    sup bro!

I totally agree on the jungle thing, that was the first music that felt like ours. That was such an exciting time. And the shitty 2-step did come out of speed garage. I remember when Twice as Nice started, it was one hell of a Sunday night party.

Growing up with Soul II Soul, then OMar & young disciples, into jungle and drum and bass... These all made me so proud and excited to be from London. Nothing else sounded like that.

So one road was travelled into popular mainstream culture and that was with 2-step and that all happened as I was leaving the Uk (not the main reason I left), so I am not so bitter.

But on the other side, you got the progession into the West London sound, your Phil Ashers of the world, the explosion in popularity of Gilles Peterson's scene, consistently good and adventurous house music from england, the evolution of Drum and Bass....

I havent seen the program and of course it would get me very riled up from what Martin said but screw them if they look at one side of the coin, I know how it really went down.

I just read the rest of the thread! hilarious!

At SPEED I did have some of the best nights clubbing ever. Alot safer than when I used to go to Jungle raves in Hackney, where the security's pitbulls were on crack and when they shouted "Lighter Pro" people got out their lighter and a can of WD-40, I shit you not.
Then SPEED got a little bit too jazzy but fortunately MOVEMENT came along. The energy at the beginning of the Blue Note Sessions was cool but it got all hyped up and people were showing up to celebrity spot.

Give me a good night with either Grooverider or DJ Hype and I'm a happy bunny.

Mr Startist, I take it you are referring to 'SPEED' & not 'SPACE'. As we all know, its all down to personal taste, but for me, I got a buzz from the jazzier/melodious stuff that was totally new & British. 'SPEED' was THE club back then for that sound. There may of been other clubs in other parts of the country playing the tracks back then, but the truth is that the artists & the distributers would bring their tracks to SPEED for Bukem & Fabio to break for the first time.
Also, I'm working class & proud of it, there were a few wealthy kids in there from St Albans/Hertfordshire area but they were also making good records, they could afford the EMU samplers !! But there were also kids off some of the estates in Islington making great music & no doubt other parts of the country. On the whole you're correct that music did'nt have a rough element attached to it (or MC's I'm pleased to say, they may generate an atmosphere for some, but I can't stand them), but that's no bad thing !

I don't agree with people simply to keep the peace. I read a lot of posts on this board and have been around some time, there is much knowledge on some topics here. I'm not looking for any love or to be taken in by you or any of the DHP but as a public message board people are entitled to free speech. Surely Gman can make up his mind as to if I should be banned, its his board and face it Martin, you got iced right here.

All good times, kind of. Warehouse parties in East London certainly made you grow up a lot quicker than staying in and watching Blind Date.

"PILLOW BITER" was aimed at me.

I didn't mean it in such a class war sense. If you got a talent to make music then good for you, who ever you are.

I loved that sound, it was just more polished....but the exciting stuff that just left my mouth wide open was the more gritty stuff. You're right it comes down to personal taste.

    Yes, it's mostly filled with _ _ _ _ _ _ _ from the home counties.

and most of the clubs are full are tourists with lil back packs.

I dont dislike London, looking from the outside it's OK, but people act like it's a heaven, Buckingham Palace looks good, I like pissing against it when I visit.

Anyway DON'T THE TRUE LONDONERS LIVE IN ESSEX NOW ?

Martin, again you go wrong here. I was not saying 'I am somebody you should respect because of this that and the other' I'll make it a bit easier for you, like for small children. You were making assumptions based on the fact that you did not know me or anything about what i may or may not know. Thats it really, doesn't get more complicated than that.
