I know a lot of you, especially those who play instruments, have a deep appreciation for jazz. I became a dj, to some extent, to share my enthusiasm for magical marriage of disco and jazz in the 70's and beyond. I am a piano freak and have Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, Errol Garner, Herbie Hancock and Donald Byrd as my primary influences. We are what we love, not who loves us!

pick one, you said? i'd have to say herbie hancock - only because, in my generation, he had his hands on more shyt that has influenced me than any other musician...

herbie brought in existence 3 things that i am ever so grateful for (amongst others, but these REALLY took hold on my soul):

    -the movie "'round midnight"
    -the headhunters
    -"rockit"

3 different sounds - all extremely innovative what more can i say...

Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock were my biggest influences as a teenager playing the piano and synths.

Herbie's work with The Head Hunters along with George Clinton's Parliament and Funkadelic are my two biggest musical inspirations.

Chick Corea's work with Return to Forever got me into alot of fusion records from the seventies and I always loved his aggressive approach towards solos in many of Return to Forever's songs.

    Peace

this was a deeper question than I originally thought. It has made me remember "Headhunter" as one of the most influential albums of alltime. In terms of expanding my brain Sun Ra, Vernon Reid and Jimmy McGriff were key.
