is that standard ? Always an analog signal from CDJs & turntables? Is it still true if you're mixing w serato or torq or some such software?
Excuse me if I'm asking this awkwardly. While I love freakin' and tweakin' my computer, the DJ stuff is still a mystery to me.

most guys will output a signal from an extra output on the mixer or whatever into a soundcard or even just the built in input on a cheap pc...yes, its analog...even with serato, the sound coming out of the mixer is analog...going to the pc, amps or sound system or whatever...if you want it to come out digitally, you would need a mixer that has a digital out (not many) or something like that...or connect it first to an analog to digital converter, which just adds an extra step...easiest way is as i described...if a mixer has a 'record' or 'zone' out, even easier...just hook one of those up to your soundcard, set your inputs on your card and levels and off you go...

even with some of the various 'digitally controlled' club sound systems out there, the audio from the mixer, no matter what is going into it (turntables, cd's, serato, whatever....) is coming out analog most of the time, just that the system crossovers/amps/eqs/etc are digital units...
now, if you're dj'ing say straight off a laptop, no mixer, just in the software, and your laptop has a digital audio output, then that would be straight digital..to wherever...another computer or broadcast off the laptop itself if possible depending on your system...or if i want, let's say i have a prerecorded mix, as an mp3 file or whatever on my computer...i can play that directly off the computer and broadcas that signal...bypassing any mixers or whatever...
