    It's an instinct.

When I was twelve we used to go swimming at a hotel pool, and every day there was this lady with an infant - maybe six months old. He couldn't walk. She basically chucked him in the water, then got in herself, and did a whole bunch of swimming exercises with him. She kept throwing him away from her about eight feet or so, and he kept crawling back to her every time. No blow-up arm floats or anything. I was really amazed - I didn't learn how to swim until I was six years old, and here's this baby having a go.

Four years later we check into the same hotel. So I relax at the pool one afternoon, and I see this little kid swimming like a fish.

I was well and truly amazed, until I saw him get out and run over to where his mother was lying reading a magazine. That's when I recognized them.

I remember seeing a film of women giving birth in a swimming pool. The babies literally swam out of the womb. That fugged me up...

when the baby went head first into the pool, it made my heart skip a bit.

Reminded me when Nicky and I went to visit my MOM in Florida, and our oldest said "I can swim", he jumped in and went straight to the bottom. i had to jump in and get him.
