    Smile Movies!

    We're heading into the holiday movie season and I gotta say, it's encouraging for the first time in awhile.

    "Juno" opens today which I can't wait to see...

    I saw "No Country For Old Men" FINALLY this weekend. Wow. I know there was a thread on here about that awhile back ut my search-ability is highly impaired.

    Also, hoping to see Lumet's latest "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" this weekend, too:

    "No Country For Old Men" was just spectacular on every level. They (The Coens) are only getting better with age.

    We got such a kick out of hearing people talking about how rediculous the ending was, and how stupid the movie is. People are really addicted to the regular Hollywood formula... The way the last 1/4 of the movie went was brilliant. They didn't give a fuck out of making a big deal over what went down with that vietnam vet dude and ending the movie with that down note. Their point was so much bigger than that

    Yes, that is the complaint I have heard most from people, the ending. What I think is being lost on folks is that the point of the movie (to me anyway) is the journey. It's uncomfortable and horrible and you can never shake the feeling of dread that death is lurking around every corner. People also took issue with the Llewelyn's death.

    Alas, if it had been tidy and packaged up the movie would have had a completely different feeling. This certainly wasn't a pleasant film to watch although there were some examples of stellar and darkly comedic dialogue. I loved it.

    Should have been half the length. 6/10

    Juno looks exactly the same as EVERY other American indie film. I can't even tell them apart in my memory any more.

    I'm looking forward to the new Woody Allen... and even that will most likely suck.

    The next movie that will actually be good is My Blueberry Nights in Feb.

    I saw August Rush last week - peopel will dislike it because it's so unrealistic, but if you take it for what I think it was intended to be (a music fairytale) it was pretty good ... the plus to seeing it on the big screen was the sound quality for a movie so built on 'sound'

    I quite liked 2046. How long ago was that?

    I think the last thing I saw in the theater that I really enjoyed was The King of Kong.

    wasn't feeling the end of no country. i get it, but i feel they didn't set it up correctly and made a lot of people expect something different which ended up being very unsatisfying...

    the last movie i really enjoyed was the darjeeling limited...

    anyone see Juno yet? I was thinking of going to see it between my day job and night job today. ???

    also, the ads for The Debaters has me interested ... i only started hearing about it a few days ago though, i wonder why so late in the advertising for a movie set to debut on christmas

    I so agree with that. There is a formula to most of these indie films. They call themselves anti-Hollywood yet they abide by the formula more than most Hollywood movies.

    I saw Enchanted yesterday. Not a stimulating film by any means but it was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon and is probably more thought provoking than Juno.

    One film I want to see is Persopolis, opening on Christmas Day. That looks interesting.
