I think folks are still recovering. I know I am. I will reserve comment for now and allow others to report. But thanks to all who came out.
Come on people who went. We need details!!
AK, you're so humble. Can't you spill a little.
Did you have fun??
SPG
alright - since nobody is responding then I guess I will have to spill the beans.
first of all, i was hoping to have a surprise for everyone but my little pocket friend failed me once again. two years in a row. :(
frank and i walked into the place at 10:30 as heads were just starting to walk in. AK was already on the decks and getting acquainted with the system.
i knew we were gonna be in for a great night because folks headed straight for the dance floor as soon as they walked in. by 11:20 the floor was pretty crowded and then AK proceeded to take it to a higher level. by midnight the place was really going nuts just in time for Frankie. Frankie came on and just proceeded to let them have it. The whole night was pretty amazing. Frankie played alot of new music that I have not heard before.
Frankie Knuckles, 30 years in this business and still growing strong. Truly the God Father of House.
I gotta say that I'm very proud of our friend and fellow board member, Alan King. Like EL in previous appearances, he too stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam.

agreed. i think people (including myself) are recovering from 2 -3 nights of serious events. i haven't been to one of the HOB sets in a while and frankie has not skipped a beat. its nice to know that some things remain the same even though they have changed (hmmm). classic frankie through and through. juliette roberts "caught in the middle" did it for me!Originally posted by Tony Cano:

got there at about 10:30 specifically to check AK. very impressive to say the least! i had a great time and the crowd showed love to both alan and frankie. two thumbs up!
There's only one word to discribe the performances of both Alan and Frankie last night: flawless.

Yep...
The HOB was on fire Thursday night. AK played an excellent set. I rolled up around 11'ish and hit the bar first (gotta stay hydrated). E-Phi and I are lamping in the back checking out the scene and AK's set. In the course of three records, I went from drink in hand at the bar to dancing on the stage. Alan played as best as I have head him ever. You could see it in his eyes, he wanted to represent, and he did. He played across the spectrum; some old, some new, some classics, and some 90's underground he thought we weren't up on (I caught it AK, it didn't slip by). By the end of his set the floor was full and people were still streaming in. It was like the perfect alley-oop waiting for the big man to finish...
And the big man definitely finished...
Frankie was his usual self, magnificent. I've often wondered how a man can continue to perform at such a high level for such a long period of time. We are truly blessed to have partied/lived in the presence of Greatness. Frankie Knuckles is truly one of the best to ever grace the tables. I hope we realize what we have right here, right now.
Oh yeah, he played some nice tunes also...

The New Bang Clan Brotherhood were definately present thursday evening. Guess what Greg, my head wasn't hurting the next day, the only thing I had to endure at work was sleep deprivation-I was outta there within four hours

Wow. Thanks guys for the love. It was a fabulous night and so meaningful for me on so many levels...it's hard to put into words. I really want to thank everyone who made a special effort to get there early. Having DHP family like Tony and Frank, Greg and Steve P, E-Phi, Jamie, Torin, Mynia, Richie, JINX, DJ Darryl, Tony Bracey, Part Sixx and others in the room--who I know were there to support and to bring positive energy--meant a great deal. I especially want to thank EL for his kindness and support. You're a good man, my friend.
Greg, I really appreciate the alley-oop analogy because one of my primary goals for the night was to hand over the keys to the big guy with the floor moving and the room full of energy. (So you caught those, did you... ) Good luck to you tonight.
As far as Frankie is concerned...what can you say? Because he has ascended to "public figure" status, a lot of arrows come his way and many people take him for granted. But the Man has been CONSISTENTLY BRILLIANT for 30 years! Take a look around at any field or occupation and there aren't too many--in history--that you can say that about. And with all of his success and accomplishments, he has the nerve to be kind, generous and without ego. Like Greg said, Greatness with a capital "G." And oh yeah, he played some really hot records too.
Sorry G, no recording...TC almost had the HOB bootleg mix.
As i stated on another board about another producer with the same qualities (Charles Webster)Originally posted by AK:

this kind of attitude is so rare in recent years.....there are others.
But for the most part, you have your one hit wonders strutting around with egos the size of the empire state and really what have they achieved...Getting the gigs when there are serious hard working "DJ's" out there...
I take my hat off to producers/dj's OLD and NEW who remain humble after mucho success...YOU know and WE know who you are
rant over
cheers
rob
ps. sorry to jack the thread
pps. this is not envy...i have records and play them out from time to time.....but there are dj's i have heard who are losing work to these people..

I've got to get a computer at the crib so I can post more timely when I'm away from the office!!
For those who couldn't make it---AK and Frankie served it well!!!! Truly glad to see my boy Alan get a chance to showcase his skills. He had the place jumpin' by the time he gave that no-look pass to Frankie. BTW--I do need to get a copy on CD of that Subsystem cut!!

Thanks, man. You got it on that Subsystem. Glad I dusted that one off.Originally posted by JINX:
