    Killing Hiss without compromising sound...

    Can this be done?

I am asking this because I am still noticing some hiss in my recordings.

Here's how my set up is:
    Rane MP2016
    Behringher EQ
BBE Maxcom compressor/Sonic Maximzer-I use this mainly for the Sonic Maximizer.

I then run a line to my machine, which has a Creative soundcard.

Is it something with how I am running the inputs/outputs of the units I am using?

    Help will be greatly appreciated.

Ofcourse you should check your cables, In/out put. Try to keep as much as possible balanced. Make sure everything is proper grounded, use groundlifts if possible?

Try to figure out where it's coming from by leaving a component...
My guess it'll probably be the behringer...
Behringer is a consumer product, not professional. your weakest link I think,
what soundcard do you use of creative? I also have one from creative, the emu 1820M which is a real good one but there are some others that are probably not suiteble for pro recording.

If nothing helps there's an option to use the gate on your BBE maxcom or you could buy a noisegate, but like I said, that would be my last option.

    Peace,

were you getting hiss by goin through the master outputs on the rane? I had the same problem with hiss..then i went through the tape outputs and it disappeared. I went from the master outputs on the rane to one of the channels on my mixing board. Once i went through the tape outputs it was removed.
