They are adding more and more channels all the time..Ithink the FCC is requiring every station transmit HDTV by a certain date. I dont think HDTV affects sound..Satellite is already digital sound./Originally posted by GROOVE VICTIM:

Just curious groove.Have you done any research on the new "DLP" ( Digital Light Projection )HDTV technology. I was looking into getting the Samsung, but don't know for sure.
I actually need all the help I can get.

I know that some satellite variations of many Channels such as HBO, Showtime, etc, do offer Doly Digital Broadcasts that are able to support 3/2.1 discreet audio signals to each channel (provided you have a reciever that can translate the signals).
I know that in my area that the major affiliates do have a High Devinition station (country ass people are coming up in the world ehh) but I'm not sure how strong the signal will be.
Marlon, you tryin to play with the big dawgs ehh? I've read about it some time ago but it's just too damn expensive for me at the moment.

Samsung HLM507W
Is this the one you're talking about? I've yet to see this one in the stores.
I've been looking at the Samsungs but Crutchfield has been cutting the costs on the Sony 34 and 36" monitors. Two Grand for a Sony HDTV is pretty good. I'm trying to keep everything Sony with the exception of the speakers, something that Sony lacks in.

Yes that's exactly the one Groove. I've been looking to make this investment for a couple of months now,and I know once I make it I probabaly will NEVER buy a new T.V. again unless I win the lottery or something. This is why I am being very careful and doing alot of research. I want to buy the 61" Samsung. They look beautiful! But again so do the Plasmas and you know the deal with those. You pay top dollar and you can't really enjoy them for the rest of your life. The technology is great but it's just not perfected.I am hoping it's not the same with the "DLP" technology.I will keep you posted on my decision and maybe when you come down to Kev's you can come over to watch a movie and check it for yourself.
Cool beans. I just payed off my car and I want to finish up my Home Theater. I wanted to be finshed with it by last spring but I had to take my financial situation more seriously.
So far I just have a center channel, and surround speakers, I'm getting ready to puchase my subwoofer and my two front channel speakers.
Sony just put out this X95 line of Recievers, the 995 model I'll end up getting. 7.1, Dolby Digital, DTS ES for $475 at Best Buy and Circuit City.

I'll probably get something similar to this Sony Wega in about a year.
What kind of audio system do you have? You'll probaby want to go with seperate Signal Processors and an Amp, I'm taking the budget route for now.

Hey Marlond I am debating on getting the Samsung as well. If you were thinking about getting a plasma you might want to go with the Samsung dlp. It's going to last you longer than a plasma, you don't have to worry about burn in and a 50 inch plasma is going to cost between 6 to 9 thousand. By the way you might want to check out the new Hitachi and Panasonic lcd tv's. I think they both weigh less than 100 pounds, and i think the Samsung 50 inch weigh's less than 80 pounds. And that comes in handy when you have to move them.
