Employers have been using Google as a deciding factor to weed out potential candidates and current employees. It's an unofficial background check. Most employers today Google your name to see if you previously had or filed lawsuits against a former employer or had any legal issues period, that would deem you as a potential threat. If you stand up for your rights, they do not want to hire you...they see potential lawsuit if they terminate your employment. After speaking with an individual with impeccable credentials, he was frustrated in his inability to obtain employment. I did an experiment. Without asking him, I Googled his name and low and behold, his civil lawsuits popped up...I showed him the computer screen. "This is why, you're not being hired." Legal filings are public record posted by your local, state and federal courts. You may want to Google your own name to see what's posted on the internet about YOU. Some employers also check Myspace, FaceBook and dating web sites, etc. to see if you posted any risque pictures of yourself, which could embarrass their company.
