Have you heard people say "it's the hook"
when it comes to trying to describe a song or part of a song????
What the hell are these people trying to say? To me they really don't know what they are talking about.
Is this a new ghetto term????

Isnt the hook the main part of the song.Take Let no man putasunder for example, isnt the hook the part that goes"Its not over between you and me etc".I think the hook is the part that most people remember.

A hook is a musical idea, a passage or phrase, that is believed to be appealing and make the song stand out; it is "meant to catch the ear of the listener".[1] This term generally applies to popular music, especially rock music, dance, and pop music, and in these genres, the hook is often found in, or consists of, the chorus.
A hook can, in general, be either melodic or rhythmic, and often incorporates the main motif for a piece of music. Characteristics of a melodic hook include skips in the tonal line; however, details of what makes a tune "catchy" are difficult to describe. A rhythmic hook can be equally catchy by employing syncopation or other devices, but there are still examples of rhythmic hooks which are very straightforward.
