In spring 1998, The Groove Institute attended the Winter Music Conference
and witnessed some of the top garage parties & performers the world had to
offer. The absence of nights in Toronto playing soulful dance music convinced the
DJ Collective that Solid Garage was needed. Solid Garage exploded onto the
Toronto music scene in the summer of the same year and, ten years later, the
DJ Collectives dedication has ensured that Solid Garage is a Toronto institution
with an incredible line up of international & local guests.

We cordially invite you to celebrate this achievement as this will be a party to
remember.

Music Programmers:

Groove Institute (Solid Garage Residents)

In 1995 YOGI, MARK & ANAND had their own radio show at the University of
Toronto called the Groove Institute Mix Show. The show's name was
subsequently used by the DJ collective to signal their mission: to educate and
entertain people with the music that they loved. The collective had paid their dues
travelling around the U.S. digging deep through the crates for rare old gems and
immersing themselves in the underground warehouse scene of the late 80s/early
90s. They learned their lessons well and began putting their knowledge to work
by establishing their premier night Solid Garage in 1998. In their quest for the
perfect beat, the Groove Institute cover a wide selection of music, dropping soul,
jazz, latin, afro, disco, garage, techno and deep house into the pot for a
constantly evolving musical flavor and richness. The true garage vibe!

With special live performances by:

Byron Stingily (Ten City, Chicago)

The lead vocalist for Ten City and later a solo star in his own right, Byron Stingily
has one of the most beautiful voices in house music. As part of Ten City, he
recorded house music classics "Devotion", "Right Back to You", "That's the Way
Love is" & "My Peace of Heaven". In 1998 Stingily released his debut solo
full-length LP "The Purist", which produced the club hits "Get Up" & and a cover
of Sylvester's classic "You make me feel (Mighty Real)". This album
also featured some of dance music's top producers: Masters At Work,
Frankie Feliciano, Frankie Knuckles, Mousse T, Jazz N Groove, Maurice Joshua
& The Basement Boys, to name a few. Presently, Byron runs a record label
called Stingily Music with Toronto's Junior Palmer. Expect to hear some more
club anthems from this SOLID performer.

King Sunshine (Deep House Collective Band)

As a highly skilled and electric live act, King Sunshine has been lighting dance
floors on fire since 1998. They illuminate disco roots and drop inflections of funk
and dance rhythms, reinventing house music and driving the whole fusion over the
red line. Years of sold out club shows and underground parties have led to shared
stages with music's finest DJs & Performers. Theo Parrish, DJ Sneak, Mark
Farina, Derrick Carter, Ron Trent, Little Louie Vega & The King of Gospel House,
Kenny Bobien have all shared a stage with the Collective. Join King Sunshine as
they share their raw explosive energy on the Solid Garage stage!
