Unhappy Company Layoffs and the Economy

Our company just let go of a lot of people today including one developer in the IT department that I'd always shoot the shit with and vent about IT shit. Now I'm bummed because he was a really good guy and is the bread winner for his family. I really hate days like this and I really hate seeing people lose their jobs.

I blame all this economy shit on Bush and the fuckin' Republicans. Eat a cock and die, fuckers! I seriously hope Obama wins the election and becomes our next President and will hopefully bring some much needed CHANGE because this shit is ridiculous.

    Thumbs down

Our building has 4 floors used to have 10 different tenants and now only 4 companies remain. We laid off about 20 people a month ago.

Was getting on the elevator a couple of weeks ago when this chick I know from another company got on carrying a plant and a box of stuff. I asked her what was she doing, re decorating her office? She said no, she had got laid off. Said she came to work that morning and they told her that they were eliminating her job and they didn't need her anymore. Then she started to cry-had worked there 10 years.

the world is changing... Asia is competing now so of course we're going to lay off people. There's much more to this than just this administration.

when I was listening to BBC News, they were reporting similar problems in UK.

I hear ya, bro. IT seems to be a good industry to be in but it also depends on the position. I've noticed a lot of developers that are out there looking for work, while network/sys admins and engineers along with DBAs seem to be okay. The medical and law enforcement fields are also good to be in. Jeez, it's starting to get scary.

I'm always curious how the order from up top comes down to your level. What do they actualy say? And is the decision who to cut all performance based?

Ha! Guess those old "Will Fuck for Coke" tees down in South Beach have some competition.

And after my latest trip to the grocery store, paying the utilities and whatnot, I can see a return to the standard classics, like: "Big Daddy, can you break me off a lil sum'n for rent or groceries or the light bill?" Or, putting a new spin on it, like: "Baby, my ARM is about to adjust...you think you can help me out?" Shit is crazy.

Just flash your gas receipt on a dyme - it's better than a business card

I'm in a constant conversation with the directors. I know when its time to look to at cutting payroll costs.

I decided who to cut based on a combination of performance and cost savings. I look for overall efficiency, making sure we get the most bang for our buck. If you get paid twice as much as your assistant... you better be providing the company with twice the skills and half the fuckups... otherwise I'd rather have 2 juniors.

Damn! props, bro! TRowe Price is a good company and there aren't many Domino Engineers out there so that makes you more valuable.
