    Your Unemployment Benifits..

We all know the rising rate of unemployment is out of control. For those of you who ever filed for your unemployment benifits, do the employees at the unemplyoment office make it difficult to get the ball rolling to collect. I mean isn't that your money? I've heard some stories of people having a hard time collecting.Even if you are layed off versus getting fired from a job they still give people a hard time?Share your experience.

    Unhappy

Most people I know they usually have more than one job so if they get laid-off from one job they still have their other (which is usually a part-time) job, but they try to find another full-time one instead of waiting for unemployement to kick in cause bill collectors won't basically wait for you to get back on your feet and gas prices ain't getting any lower.

When I was on unemployement here in Chicago, I didn't have a problem getting my money. I think a lot more of it has to do with your company and how they processed your information. They were actually pretty nice at the unemployment office.

The thing I hated here in Illinois, is that you cannot re-apply after 6 months. After 6 months, that's it. Shame because it took me a year in a half to find a good job. In the meantime, I worked for temp agencies to make it.

Most of the time it's not the unemployment office. The employer usually has some reason or another to fight/delay the process. Most of the time it's why don't you work there anymore. You say one thing, former employer says another thing. Before you know it you have found another job and don't need unemployment. At least that's what happened to me.

Over the years, regardless of whether the unemployment rate was rising out of control, or declining into submission, collecting unemployment is a breeze ... so that 1st statement has no place in your question (other than to be DHP-imflamatory)

Applying is easy -- especially since the late 90s, you can apply online and expedite the process.

I've been unemployed many times over the last 10+ years, and have filed multiple times in the states of CT, NJ and VA ... each and every time, the process was a breeze, and the ball gets rolling immediately.

    * As you eluded to above, people that got fired from their job, sometimes have a hard time getting their claims approved -- but in many cases still get UE.

If your employer has a Tax ID #, you will have absolutely no problem collecting (even if the employer has not paid their contribution throughout the years).

i've filed for unemployment twice, a few years ago in nj and recently here in dc, and honestly, i didn't have any problems in either state. both times, i was laid off on good terms (if that makes sense, lol), so i'm sure that made both processes easier.

Yeah man, if a person got layed off AND went off on their boss heading out the door ... well, that's where a lot of those stories come from

Shit, I'm collecting right now-while I look for work.

I walked from my last gig, but I still pulled off getting benefits.

Yes. 8 years and no growth. Only thing keeping me there were those perks. I would have left after 3 years, if it wasn't for that.

It took about a week or two to kick in with dircet deposit..

    ugh at temp agencies......
i never collected a dime from unemployment. most employers i worked for fight you tooth and nail(especially when i was in a union)just to deny what you worked for. not all employers are like this, just the ones who just deny you just for their jobs sake.

missed sending an appeal by two days and the state denied me my unemployment. a week or so later i was hired again.

One of the little-known extra benes of UE is that many states do not consider layoff serverance/separation pay, as income - even if it's paid out on a normal weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis (through payroll) after you leave the job.

When I was working in NJ, I got a nice package (1yr full salary and benefits) to leave the company, AND legally collected UE at the same time

no doubt!!! i didn't get a full year's salary like you(ya lucky bastard, lol), but i did get 3 months severance, while collecting ue when i got laid off in nj. i was laid off in may that year, so that ended up being one of my most enjoyable summers ever.

Wow! Dave I don't feel so bad now. I see that I'm not the only one that filed in multi-states at the same time.

Really? You gotta move to Bergen County. They were sweet, helpful and efficient.

Collecting this summer because of a reduction in force. Have a job for the fall, but this adds to what I saved up for the summer and that's lovely!!!
